Ok I've had an idea for making the research system in DK a bit more sofisticated and interactive.
We could have a Research button which brings to the Research tree page.
What is it? It a sort of Menu with 3 different options. Clicking one of the icons representing rooms, spells or traps/doors will bring you to its Tech tree sheet.
- Rooms
- Spells
- Traps/Doors
In each sheet there will be a different Tech tree.
How does it work? You can click on an icon, representing a room (for example the prison) or a spell (for example heal) or a trap (for example the sentry gun) or a door (for example a magic door) to begin researching it right away. There will be a queue system so you can choose the researches you want to pursue and in which order you want them studied. Each tech tree will be divided at their root in two "ways". For example in the Traps/Doors tech tree the first branching will be Traps on the top and Doors on the bottom. So the more advanced features (like a torture chamber) will be unlocked by previous researched features (so for example lair->hatchery->prison)
How does the tech trees appear? There will be icons describing what will be researched, if you already researched the previous feature in the tech tree or an icon with a question mark if you haven't. In SP you will not see the full tech tree, because many features will be unlocked during the campaign. Naturally in MP you'll have all the tech trees immediately.

Mmm not exactly. If we decide to adopt this system we'll have to decide how will the tree be composed. And you'll eventually get the "force players to research something specific" feature![]()
