Sound Issues on Vista

I've been getting a lot of sound issues with Vista, where the narrator speech is all broken up. Also, I get frequent crashes which I think are related to teh sound. Installing XP is not an option, I've tried on this computer but it won't work with XP, something to do with the hard drive format. I'm using a quad core, but I have it set to use only one, im running under 95 compatability mode, themes and desktop disabled, and -32biteverything in the command line. It's really annoying because I've managed to get to the fifth level, but it crashes almost immediately every time I start that level. I know I can probably try skipping it, but I'd really like to be able to play all the levels, and I'm worried it'll happen on later levels anyway.

So in short, are there any possible fixes for the sound on Vista?

Well, i have DK2 running on Vista without any problems ( no crashing etc.)
I installed the game, downloaded Patch 1.7
You run the game with 95 compatablility mode ?
I run the game under Windows XP SP2 compatability mode and got no probs maybe try that
