Dungeon Keeper 2 Vista - DKII.icd problem

Dungeon Keeper 2 randomly crashes. It's very annoying when I try to play a level and when I go into the menu to save, it crashes. Windows says it's a problem with DKII.icd. Does anybody know how I can fix this?

I had the same problem on my Win 7, 64 bit laptop. But I made some changes that made the game run a lot more better, try this:

Go into your DKII shortcut, add these two
lines "-softwarefilter" and "-32biteverything" behind the shortcut (it should look like this):
"C:\...\Dungeon Keeper II\DKII.exe" -softwarefilter -32biteverything


Then go into the compatibility screen and check the boxes:

X Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution
X Disable Visual Themes
X Disable Desktop Composition
X Disable Display scaling on high DPI setting


(If this does not help, try the grapic settings as displayed in the attached file)

I tried the things you suggested but it still crashes, but thanks though.

On another forum, someone suggested a nocd patch but I can't download it (I'm using the university internet in the halls.).

Which version of the game do you have?

Version 1.7 Exactly.

It should work with that one, hmm..

Try every compatibility settings there is, win 95, win 98, XP service pack 1/2 etc..
If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas sorry

If nothing helps, download the 1.3 version. There is a topic on the forums. It's the most stable version I could find. Works for 95% of those downloaded it.

Thanks for your help, I'll see if version 1.3 works. It's just that it's annoying that I can't even save sometimes and the game crashes at that point.

Dungeon Keeper II is protected by SafeDisc copy protection. It was generally made for Windows 98 users primarily and since the Windows versions have improved, SafeDisc thinks that the game is not the original copy where in fact it is.

To get rid of the DKII.icd bugs, use UnSafeDisc. Be sure to read the readme.txt file. Once the copy protection is removed, the game should run way better without those bugs.

Bad news. I tried upgrading to version 1.73 because I had heard it solved the .ICD problem. Nope. In the campaign, I tried opening the magic menu and crash. And the larger navigation map was messed up.
