Edition KeeperFX 0.37c is a problem with displaying Russian fonts
in the attached file, I save the font in which the Russian text appears correctly in the game (other languages are not affected)
also in the attached file I saved more quality sound translation

в версии KeeperFX 0.37c есть проблема с отображением русских шрифтов
в прикрепленом файле я сохранил шрифт при котором русский текст в игре корректно отображается (другие языки не пострадали)
также в прикрепленом файле я сохранил более качественный звуковой перевод

Yes, DK1 has a terrible translation. Maybe someone is willing to try for a voice-over? I have some lines with right translation made by myself.

translate Fargus (http://rutor.org/torrent/54444/dungeon-keeper-the-deeper-dungeons-1997-pc) better than that in the first post, there seems to translate not a professional and with errors, who is the author your localization?

поскольку с английским у меня плохо напишу по русски, да и видимо по английски ты непонимаешь :)

Если прочитать мой предыдущий пост то там написано что в твоей версии хорош только шрифт. Для чего этот скрин? я и так вкурсе что фаргусовские шрифты тарабарщину выдают, во вторых эту озвучку я слышу первый раз, и перевод в ней ужасен, кагбудто ктото сидя на унитазе с зажатым носом озвучивал(sounds like some one sitting on the toilet while holding his nose :rolleyes: ), вобщем сортирная озвучка :), и спорить тут бесполезно. Видимо это просто кто к какой локализации привык.

и перевод в ней ужасен
по поводу перевода тут можно поспорить, послушай семпл, что я выложил выше, что-то я не заметил в игре никаких столовых и таких казусов масса
я уже не говорю, что чуваку к логопеду нужно было сходить, прежде чем игры озвучивать

ну у кого какая фантазия :D, а вообще эхо которое присутствует в озвучке лучше отражает специфику игры если находишся в пещере и громко говорить, то можно эхо услышать а вообще что тут спорить - вспомни как у нас в то время фильмы переводились, и ничего никто не жаловался :rolleyes:

Yes, sounds a little bit better than the rest of the gibberish that is out there. But still, quite far from the original meaning.

The PS thing sounds like some student just did some translating. I guess, the first is a bit better.

Good; I will add this to KeeperFX. As about fonts, I didn't moved much forward, so you'll still have to replace them to have your letters.

Time to dig out the thread.

KeeperFX now generates all font files automatically when building, so it's possible to modify fonts so they will support russian without replacing any files.

What I need from someone is to integrate russian characters with one of the fonts; then I will do the same for other fonts and we'll have everything working.

Here is the design of the font file:

Inside, you will find a lot of images containing single characters. Names of the images contain Unicode symbol of the character inside.
Russian chars are those named char_u04??.png. The task is to insert names of these files inside "filelist_frontft1.txt", replacing ONLY lines with numbers higher than 80, and only those which currently contain "char_empty.png".

Rules, in short:
- The amount of lines in file can't change
- Lines which contain something else than "char_empty.png" can't be modified
- Line number of these lines can't change
- You can't insert new lines, you can only replace existing ones
- Lines below no. 80 are untouchable
- Lines 154-163 are untouchable (they're "empty" in the file I attached, but they're used in other files)

The main difficulity is that there are 64 russian characters, and there's less than 50 free places (lines with "char_empty.png") in the .txt file.
Which means that for some of the russian chars, we'll have to use corresponding chars from latin alphabet.

Output:
What I need is the modified .txt file. Send it to me (or upload here on the forum) after you're done.

Well, anyone interested in making that happen?

Ok, I remade russian fonts. Now I'm start working on your problem. With wich tool I can edit your file? 'cause then I open it with notepad there's only simple text and I can't understand there is wich line. Also can we make work one symbol (letter) as english and russian? For example A and А

It's a text file.
If the text editor from Microsoft doesn't seem to work, use any other editor.

I'm using FAR Manager, and its build-in editor is enough for this.
If you want graphics one, try MadEdit - it is one of my favourites.

Why? Just don't change the line, and write me a comment about it so I could know which letter to associate with which line.

So I modified sprites list file. Lines 201 and 202 untouched 'cause I used only 46 characters. Other 18 characters looks like as english characters

We're almost there, there seem to be only one problem.

The problem is that in some fonts, lines 93-97 are used. I haven't noticed that before.

So we have 4 less places.
Would you be able to still fit all characters without changing these lines?

The chars there are "{|}~" - so nothing mandatory, but it would be nice to keep them.

But 93-97 is a 5 characters. Anyway I'll can do without them and upload new file in a hour

Sorry, my mistake - should be 93-96, the last one of 5 "empties" can be used.

This seem to work fine, the changes applied to all fonts without problems.

Now we need KeeperFX to correctly encode the translations (which are in UTF) into our new code page.

Every line contains line number in filelist_* file increaded by 30 (in hexadecimal notation, this is why it starts with 0x), and a corresponding UTF character.

We need to update line numbers to our new values.

ie. let's look at space. It is stored in line 2 of filelist*.txt, so the number is 30+2 = 32, and changing it to hex makes 32 = 0x20.

So the shanges will start with:

0x41 А
0xb1 Б
0x42 В
0xb2 Г
...


Will you be able to update these values?

The new data files will be included in KeeperFX 0.4.5 when it's out.

Ok, I'll continue working on project. Now I'm translating text (I started translation few days ago and now complete 4.5%) to fully update russian translation. Also I'm planing to made voice acting, but I'll do it after text will done.

Good.

You can use POEdit to work with the .po translations.

To create a new translation (for a campaign which doesn't have .po file yet), the best way is to open gtext_*.po file (original campaign translation), and then use "update from .pot" option to load english strings from the new campaign. This way all the creature names, spell names etc. alre already translated, and you just have to translate the in-game messages.

Now I understand one thing... Our fonts works only with KeeperFX, if I use them on original version - game crashes. Can we convert them to work fine with original?
And now then I start testing my translation I discovered that fonts doesn't work with russian text (in your new text file something strange)

I don't even know why the original game crashes. KeeperFX uses same sprite format. There are minor improvements, but they shouldn't affect possibility of playing with original DK.
If it doesn't work - I don't know how to fix it.
Maybe check if the font from before our changes works there - this way you'll know if the problem is with new characters, or with sprite format in general.

How exactly are you testing your translation?
Did you changed the .po file? Did you converted .po file to .dat file?

Yes, you need a special tool made for KeeperFX.

You can compile it from KeeperFX sources, or get it from archive below:

If I remember correctly, that archive has password on it, and it's "keeper".

You only need po2ngdat.exe and char_encoding_tbl_*.txt.

The sndbanker.exe tool isn't finished - I don't think it actually works.

The other tools are for creating graphics files.

Those are command line tools, you have to run them from command prompt, and use parameters to state what you want them to do.

Example:

po2ngdat -o "gtext_rus.dat" -e "char_encoding_tbl_ru.txt" "gtext_rus.po"

Run them without parameters to see meaning of all options.
All such tools close after they're done - use shell interpreter (ie. cmd.exe from windows) to work with them.

EDIT:
The char_encoding_tbl_ru.txt in that package is old, update it with latest from SVN.

Hmm.. I thought the one included in KeeperFX is more professional - comparing sound quality, these new speeches are quite poor. There are unnecessary echoes, every "p" sounds like a bomb, and the microphone band was quite narrow.

I'm not able to compare content though.

So you want to prepare a new set of russian speeches? Do you have a script written?

Hello everyone,

I'm glad to announce that I've made an attempt to retranslate the game into something closer to a literary Russian compared to all the currently existing translations. I still have some work to do on Easter Eggs since I'm not too much of a poet and the translation requires some more proofreading, but if anyone's interested, attached are the current results of my work. The file is actually in the PO format, but I had to change the extension to TXT, so that the forum would allow me to upload the file.

My future plans also include some work on a Russian voiceover. At least I want to replace the incorrectly translated sentences in the Fargus version of the game (currently being used in KeeperFX) by better versions from other translations where possible. I put together a list of sentences that as for me, require some more love.
