All normal discussions on the Test Realm will be located here.

(This post used to hold other information, but have been moved to more appropriate locations)

Carrying over the discussion from the polls, we are discussion a little bit about the Hero Test Realm. Note that it hasn't fully been approved yet.

-Duke Ragereaver said that Sire is in charge of the Test Realms.
-Metal Gear Rex suggested Transfer Penalties for crossovers from The Awakening to the Test Realms.
-Metal Gear Rex expressed his interest in becoming the LotL.
-Sire said that normal Hero Realms may be possible in The Awakening, but he leaves it up to the managers of that to decide.

Hopefully this should help jog a few people's memory and help with going back and forth between topics.

When I meant LotL, I meant the LotL for the single Hero Test Realm.

Perhaps if it gets popular, a normal Hero roleplay may be able to open up in The Awakening, but I have no power there.

I'm gonna go ahead and make a Test Realm Discussion Topic before we go further off-topic in the polls.

Oh wait, so more like being the LotL unit? (If that's so, who's really in charge of that realm? LotL fight XD)

Maybe but that's up to Duke. I know I'd like it, I'd like to be even some normal Heroes. Jeez now the suggestions... that would be nice...

However I think I recall Duke saying he has plans for that... I don't remember where though. Possibly on the old forum?

Well hopefully sometime that is in our view and if not, then not too far off.

PS: Duke Ragereaver no space :P

PPS: Was it really neccessary for the second post? O_o

The LotL, in my ideas anyway, function exactly the same as the Keeper, but he's a mobile and killable unit. So, you will be roleplaying a very powerful creature that commands everyone else.

I do not know what you mean when who's in charge of the realm, but all Test Realms will have much more freedom than The Awakening. The LotL (for Hero Realms) and Keepers (for Keeper Realms) are charged with the task to make their own stories, maps, and decides on what to be tested for their certain realm. They may incorporate all, some, or none of the backstory if they desire.

Of course, everyone must follow a standard of some sort, which I will magically create when the forum is...

Ah, I got confused. I got the idea you meant we could all become a LotL at once, heh...

However, I am currently discussing about the possibility of a Hero Realm. If it passes, you (as well as everyone else interested), can become the LotL and have most of the control for your own realm (including maps, storyline, and what to be tested.)

I wanna be Lord/Lady of the Land! :D However one question, does this effect my max creatures or not really considering it follows keeper properties?

Being a LotL must be tiring! You have to walk around all day to give orders. That's probably why they are so strong, they have that excercise! Dungeon Keepers are fat blobs of heart because they sit there all day. Also why they take forever to die, like Bile Demons...

Creature Limit Per User be the same as the other realm? Well I'll leave that up to Duke to answer if you don't know.

Does the Lord/Keeper of each realm also approve the suggested ideas or no...? Would you do that if not?

When the forum is...? When the forum is...!? WHEN THE FORUM IS!!?? :confused:/:mad:

Sire

@ MGR:

The Max Creatures system shall remain the same for both LotL and Keepers.
Creature Limits Per Realm shall also remain the same (2 Creatures per player)
Keepers and LotL decides what ideas to be used in their realm. However, they must have # of ideas in order to pass the standards.
The forums will come around hopefully really soon. Depends on how quickly you people vote... (see below)

Realms will be driven by stories written by the Keeper or LotL of that realm. Thus, the entire realm is more or less controlled by the Keeper / LotL in that realm. A Backstory to the Test Realms will eventually be written, and the Keepers / LotL can decide to incorporate the backstory into their realm or not.

* * *

Update:

Hero realms seem to be postponed until the normal Test Realm has been activated. If the Test Realm is a success, then the Hero Realm may follow.

NOTICE: THE POLLS HAVE CHANGED. SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS

New Poll in the Test Realm Discussion (because I don't want to clog up more space with another Test Realm thread.)

Question:
Should the Test Realms be entirely separate from The Awakening, meaning it will have it's own category beside it?

1: [0 Votes]
Yes (It will have its own separate forum with a layout similar to The Awakening)

2: [0 Votes]
No (The Test Realms will be a sub-forum in The Awakening, and the Lair will be used for both Awakening Realms and Testing Realms.)

3: [1 Votes]
Combined (See below for visual, idea first from MGR, I came up with picture)

Personally, I like the combined idea (didn't vote though). Also, the faster you people vote, the more likely the forums will be created faster. So, Get Ready, FI-VOTE!

2nd Option Visual:

Testing Grounds (Main, similar to The Awakening)
Roleplaying for suggestions in an alternative, isolated universe.

Test Realms (Side, similar to Heavenarius)
The central hub to all Test Realms available at this point in time.

The Lair [T] (Side, similar to The Lair)
Still no place like home!

3rd Option Visual:

Dungeon Keeper RPG (Category)
DK Forum RP
-The Awakening (Discussions / Important Stuff)
--Heavenaruis (Realm Forums)
-Testing Grounds (Discussions / Important Stuff)
--Test Realms (Realm Forums)
-The Lair (Profile Forums)
Journey to the Avatar's Altar (for visual purposes)

So we post our votes?

Well in that case yes. Because it uses the lair and stuff, might as well. Yay, another RPG Area. :D

Quick question, if we vote yes does that mean the test realm will be inside the Awakening Forum? Will it be a sub forum listed with the Lair and Heavonious forum? (Otherwise that's a whole new option which makes it too sepperate from the Awakening)

Edit:

Oh and to what you said, goody. My own idea can be a single realm based as well. :)

Edit:

Ah well I discount my vote and officially list it as 3.

Sire
March 28th, 2010, 16:12
Yes means it will be entirely on its own (meaning one main forum and two sub forums)

No means that the Test Realms will be a sub forum of the Awakening next to Heavenarius. The Lair will be shared by both RPs, but I do not know where the Test Realm Discussions will be located.

Original Proposed Layout (for separate forums)

Testing Grounds (Main, similar to The Awakening)

Test Realms (Side, similar to Heavenarius)

The Lair [T] (Side, similar to The Lair)

The downside for separate forums is for crossovers. That's the only downside that I see to it. (I know of several forums that have several RPs on their boards, and they separate them, but they don't have crossovers...)
However, this is why I have public votes. Whatever fits the roleplayers should be how it's done, not just ''The manager says he wants it done this way, you like it or you don't.''

* * *

Edit: Came up with another proposal...

It's so funny how crazy everyone was going over this (Well with the arguement with Evi/Mothrayas) and now nobody votes. Maybe people already agree on my vote? I dunno, lazy? Maybe...

So am I gonna be the Lord/Lady of the Land of the Hero Realm? Nobody else has shown interest really.

@ MGR:

By the looks of current standings, it seems you will be the LotL of the Hero Realm if it gets implemented.

However, there will be another vote for the LotL for the Hero Realm when the time comes. When that time is, I do not know. However, with the RP at the current standing, the Test Realm may be deemed a failure and there will be no Hero Realm due to activity.

We may never know (until the forums are made).

No there must not be failure! D:

I'm certain this should bring a bit more activity to the RPG. Yesterday we had a posting session, it seems. Or was it the day before? I dunno, but whatever.

There are alot of suggestions that would be very fun to play as, and that should bring some new, and bring back some old, RPers as well as up the activity of current RPers.

I doubt people will vote, yay for option 3! It is most convienent. :)

Rawr, quick question.

What about max creatures? I mean for all realms? Like the max of 4 creatures for each memeber in the whole RPG... does it grow to 6 or something?

Or does the Testing Grounds gain its own 2 number count? And if so, doesn't that conflict with the ability to transfer creatures (Non suggestions) into the real RPG and back?

Sire
March 30th, 2010, 23:13
I don't know what will really happen about the max creatures. The Test Realm may gain two slots (so roleplayers can roleplay a suggestion and a normal character if they desire) for only the Test realm. So...

2 for Test Realm (normal and suggestions)
4 for The Awakening (normal only)

Note that the above is for active creatures. Normal rules still apply (no more than 2 in a single realm.)

This is not set in stone. When the poll is over, I'll send the information and stuff.

Yay!

How long will it take for a creature/hero/whatever to become a "normal" as is the purpose of the Test Realm? I mean first we have to justify balance, and by purphaps multiple characters? Spell set may be complicated too. We might be limited to the default spell set, unless the Keeper/Lord of each realm sees fit of what type of unit that creature is supposed to be.

Also... for balance does the keeper/lord of each realm send a report to you or Duke on each creature/whatever about each tested creature, allowing either or to decide if it should be allowed in the RPG? (I presume Duke since he moderates the real one) (Also will probably have a good long amount of tests to make it official)

And what made such a particular wait of "3 hours from now"? (Currently a near wait of like 2 hours)

Question after question after question...

"Normal" means they are in a DK game officially. So, as far as I know, if the WFTO team fully agrees and uses the idea, then I guess it can be considered normal. Don't expect this for quite some time though.

Balance reports? If that is so, then balance reports are public debate. There will be the realm, OCC thread, and a balance report for that realm.

The time limit is when I'll send me message about the everything to make it "official". Maybe then we can get the forums up...

(Disclaimer: Everything is still subject to tweaks. And I will have Icecream soon. That is all.)

It also could backfire instead and divide RP activity even more than it is now. Some good news though, I've got more time now in this period so I'l be taking a more active role in the RPG, something you probbaly have noticed. :)

I see what you mean. In the risk of it not increasing overall RP activity, then RPers will now choose which way to post in the small energy they put into the RPG. This shouldn't decrease the activity of the overall RPG, but the value of activity should be lower in the Test Realm and Real RPG. Both values combined should link up to the current value.

And I also fear that with the lower activity in either RPG, there won't be enough to reply to and could dull the RPG even further down.

In any case, I should probably do a quick study as in when the RPG began to slow down. I have a few theories as it is, shall I PM them to you and we could discuss matters from there? My own research on activity may be delayed, I'd do it right away but I've been dealing with problems all weekend.

It's a wonder what made my realm so popular in the first place... I bet a little research could provide...

I KNOW! It was on those Oddworld forums i played around with for a while before deciding that the Oddworld RPG would be inferior simply due to the fact that its about a bajillion times harder to RP a slave/supervisor then it is... oh, wait. Minions are sorta slaves too. WAIT NO! They're servants!!!!!

HAHAH. Anyway, their RPG, spite having, like, 11k posts (Actually, its 17308, but this includes RPG rules and character threads and suchlike), didn't seem as leet as ours.
Guess Oddworld has a bigger fanbase though. DAMN! Well, the company that makes it IS still alive. They're making a movie. Called, like, Citizen Siege.

Just BTW, if anyone wants to know what i'm talking about, its Oddworld by... Oddworld Industries! They made, like, 4 games before going onto the movie.

If anyone is interested you could google it. And if you want two of their games ask me and i'll be able to get them to you (legitimately! =O) via a website that hosts the files LEGALLY (=O).

The hero realm will have to start off pretty well developed because I don't know about DK 1, but in DK 2 the earliest unit you can get through the mercenary portal is the Guard and that requires a training room.

As for portals... will you use hero gates or mercenary portals?

@ Mein

The Heroes in the Testing Grounds will function similar to the Keeper RPs, these heroes have been educated to live and fight underground and will dig out underground fortresses to battle their opponents. The owner of the realm that hold the heroes, however, gets the final say on how they work in that realm.

Part of me is considering to open up another Test Realm, but with a bit of a strict procedure for application and for managing it.

It can be either a Keeper or Hero, I really don't care which.

What are you thoughts about it? I know the RPs are more or less a bit more active than they were before, but it really only has 4-5 "active" roleplayers. However, different realms appeal to different audiences, so perhaps new recruits can join.

I'd prefer if you do more Test Realm-esque stuff in the original Test Realm.

There is currently very little test stuff in here. All I recall is one scorpion enemy and a pixie, furthermore it's just like a normal Realm.

At current status, yes, it's very similar to a normal realm. As things pick up, I'm planning on other encounters using suggestions. (I already have the Valkyries and the Giant Worm with Slime encounters planned).

In addition, no one really has made a request on what test creature they want to play (save for three people that I know of, one is playing as them now and the other two still require the rooms [Werewolf and Archlich if I recall correctly).

I assure you, as things pick up and I'm able to expand, more suggestions should be tested.

I want to try out a Gargoyle when appropriate rooms are controlled... but i have a feeling that isn't for a little while yet. It is actually a good thing because you can test them with the normal stuff and ease them in to get a feel for them.

Requesting... (Or just point me in the right direction)

"Hero Portal Icon" (Note: I know is shares the same icon as a normal Portal, but I would like to differentiate the two.)

Thank you in advance.

Hero Realms are still postponed until we start getting more active roleplayers.

As of current, there really is only 3-4 actively roleplaying in the Test Realms. A few others may join at a later date when their creature is available.
When I start seeing 6+ people roleplaying at once and at regular intervals, then a Hero Realm spot may be open for applications. Otherwise, we wait.

And the fact that school is suddenly dumping me with loads and loads of work doesn't help either.

Edit:
If people are so inclined to play as Heroes (while a Keeper controls them), I may allow for conversion in the Torture Chamber, but I'll randomly roll to see if it succeeds or not. Otherwise, you will have to find another victim...

Edit 2:

-The Testing Grounds is not a "create your own creature" RP. It is for normal roleplaying of creatures or testing out Suggestions.

I guess I'll use this thread as opposed to the Dark Beyond discussion thread. I really don't think it's appropriate in the slightest, and for reasons I will reveal at the end of this post.

What I would like to do is re-open the Test Realms. I want to be able to test certain abilities within specific situations, situations that hold doubts for said abilities. An example would be a spell such as Haste Other or Haste Group. The spells are Enemy Only, and for good reason. It can be a very deadly spell when used on the proper unit, which is why I restricted it as a Self Only spell, making it more like a special trait being applied to a unit, where it is much simpler to judge its strength on that individual unit.

What we would test would be having Haste Other and using it on, say, a Giant, who is weakened normally by slowness. The spell would increase the Giant's speed and, in theory, remove that weakness and allow the Giant to perform much greater damage than would be normally possible. Whether that theory is correct or not would be seen through testing.

How the Test Realms work will be like this:
I will have a single thread for every individual test. I realize there would be a lot of threads but this would make things very easy to navigate through, as you only need to find the spell's name in a list of spells in order to see the tests performed on that spell.
There will be a single thread that is meant to apply applications. Applications will be meant for volunteers that will aid me in testing. I will need at least one volunteer as I prefer to have at least two users testing any ability. The applications will not only be for a volunteer for a Player to help with testing, but also which Creature(s) they intend to use. Appliers will essentially be sending a Creature Profile needing approval, with the difference being that it is handled publicly rather than privately. More on that shortly. I will very likely have only a single test thread open at any one time as to avoid any potential confusion or confliction between applications.
Every time I need to open up a test thread, I will post in the applications thread. I will list what spell is necessary to test, the reasons it needs to be tested, in addition to the kind of scenario that will be created for such a test. This will include enemy types and general abilities, if not specific abilities, and what kind of Player Units I will need for testing.
The applications given will essentially be existing Creatures in the Awakening RPG. They will have to have a revised Spell List as to be appropriate for testing. Any abilities necessary or forbidden for any application will be listed. The Creature may have revised abilities and feats beyond Spell Lists but it is highly preferable if abilities beyond the Spell List remain the same as in the standard Awakening Variation in order to keep things relatively simplistic and easier to follow. The only time I will likely allow this is when the applying player doesn't have much of a choice, lacking a character with the proper requirements.
Most importantly, while character spell revisions will be made, a sense of balance must be kept. It is important to remember what and why we are testing, and having imbalanced characters hardly brings about positive, or more specifically, accurate results for the balance of an ability.
After applications have been taken care of, I will open the thread. At the start of each thread, I will list all enemies and players down to their specific character traits. I will then describe the scene through a map and possibly word description, in addition to indicating starting locations.
Afterwards, the battle will begin between the Players and Enemy units. This will be handled very much like standard Awakening Battles.
Once the battle/test ends, the thread will be closed. There will be a discussion in the OOC thread that follows it. Like the test threads, there will be an OOC thread for every test performed as to easily allow users to track down specific discussions. Anyone can post in the OOC thread at any time, so long as they have something relevant to the discussion.
After that, I will reach a conclusion as to whether or not to allow the spell to be accepted as a standard Player Unit, restricted as a High Power Spell, Enemy Only Spell, or not allowed at all. I will always be the final deciding factor with the only exception being that I say otherwise, which will likely only be if I have reason to believe that I cannot trust my own judgement alone. I will decide based on the events in the test itself and the discussion that took place. After reaching my decision, I'll have the test thread locked, but not the OOC thread.
For applications, I will very much prefer to have those who have better experience with handling battles. I would like to avoid as many mistakes that take place during battles, dropping them down to zero if possible, as to avoid convoluting or diluting of the test that takes place.
Lastly, if I feel that the test didn't provide accurate results, I will repeat it over again.

I realize it sounds like a lot to take in, a lot of steps making it into a complex and lengthy procedure. It can be complex at times, but likely not a lengthy procedure for most tests. Once we all get familiar with the process, it will flow smoothly and naturally.

Now, I am aware that the Test Realm concept has been done two times before I was Game Master. They both failed miserably. It was so bad that it actually turned out being counterproductive to the whole RP, not only failing in providing effective results for, well, anything, but also stealing away from activity and causing the Awakening RP to suffer in that regard. After that, it seems as if the whole idea is just simply doomed to fail, right? No, that is actually entirely wrong.

Previously, only the outer shell of the problem has been analyzed. As a result, we've essentially deluded ourselves into believing we avoid the problem by moving away from the concept entirely. And we do. But at what cost? The cost is that we also move away from reaching that highest potential. By properly analyzing the problem at the core, the very root, we can come to an understanding of what is the true problem. From there, we can come to the conclusion as to whether or not the concept itself is flawed or if it's simply the execution, and why. I have done just that for this particular problem.

Now, no offense to Duke, but the truth is that the problem before is actually his fault. Both times before when the Test Realm concept was attempted, it was very badly executed, which resulted in the above mentioned problems. I've come to the conclusion that it was simply the execution that was flawed. The concept itself is perfectly fine.

The first time the test realm was attempted, it was essentially just another realm. It acted primarily as a realm, secondly as a test realm. Additionally, there were few goals set to accomplish, and really no efficient or effective method previously planned to reach those goals. It was basically a very limited form of testing, reverting back to only what was known about handling and managing the Awakening, which was just a standard realm and RP, as opposed to actual experimenting and testing. The biggest thing it ever tried to test was the concept of WftO suggestions being in the Awakening, but it also wasn't very well executed. Essentially, new Creatures acted much like the old ones. The Pixie, for example, could essentially be normally achieved by doing modifications to the Fairy and bam. There was a lack of sufficient and accurate experimenting going on, as previously mentioned.

The second time the test realm was attempted was with the Dark Beyond and Leto's dungeon. I'm not going to lie when I say this but I think that was even worse than the first attempt. The Dark Beyond wasn't actually a test realm at all, rather, it was disguised as an Awakening story plot. It wasn't going to come into play until way, way in the future, so far in the future that most of Heavenarius would be conquered by then. It only showed up now essentially so that Duke could say he had things planned out, and to also provide build up for the events. Not that we would ever get that far. The focus wasn't even testing. I hope I don't have to explain why this idea failed.

* * * * * * *

So, baring in mind the past failures and true reasons for these failures, I have come up with plans for a new type of execution of the Test Realm concept that can actually benefit the Awakening this time around. As far as activity goes, it shouldn't effect it too badly, if at all, as it's only taking time away from primarily two or three RPers and also acts as a secondary focus to the main Awakening in general. It won't always be around either, and when it is, it should be fairly short lived in most tests as I don't intend to drag things out with test battles beyond what is necessary.

Now I am curious what others have to say about this concept, now that it has a fresh execution plan.

The set-up that you have for the new Test Realms seems solid. It'll be like little bite sized snapshots of the situations needed, rather than keeping all the humble bumble keeping us from getting there. We'll be able to hop in, test, and hop out, with few to no consequences. As far as the old versions of this, I care very little, as I was not involved with them and they hold no influence over my opinion of the new one you've come up with. We might also want to have a results thread listing everything tested or being tested, their status, the verdict (whether or not they were added, removed, or adjusted to a different spell type), and links to the main thread and the review thread.

That would also be good for tracking down specific threads once we reach a point when the threads are spread out through multiple pages.
