Here, let's group all of the silly mentor quotes and the way to get them during the game. If you do new discoveries or know how to get some of them, please share the info with us so that I'd bring the changes. Thanks for future contributions! :)

Do you think you could use a different color other than lime? It is too close to yellow, I can't tell them apart, well now in the list anyways. Maybe blue? Or yellow for confirmed, blue for unsure.

It might be just my screen, it is messed up on one side, deforming colors a bit... Enough to turn the red haired Dwarf into a Green Haired one.

"The very rock yawns with anticipation of your next fascinating move"
45 Seconds, actually

"One of your imps does a great impression of you. He can even do the ears"
This one is for every 20th imp, I think. Like maybe for the 40th imp too, I'll have to check up on that but if I remember correctly it is every 20 imps.

"You’ll go blind, you know"
Heehee, I've heard of that but somehow I've never encountered it.

"The Wizard needs food"
I wonder if this has something to do with Level6b, where you begin with a Wizard in Prison... Well I'm sure it has something to do with a Wizard in Prison.

And here I was hoping this was for DK1. :(

You forgot "Let's party like it's 1999!" I have no idea how to get it, Random when you have a casino maybe? Just an educated guess. (Then again, the mentor might not educated at all.... :p)

Oh that's on a Friday night, I forgot what time... 11:50? 11:55? Or maybe 12:00 but that might be when it ends.

"Let's party" one is really fun =) Got it 5 or more times.

Others are listed in the sound files, but I did not hear A LOT of them =) I think they simply were not included for some reason.

that's what happens when you add EA + Time Rush + Overused Ideas

"Your Lair has been re-carpeted"

It happens when you have lots of creatures.

Lots of creatures = Nearly full lair or full lairs.

I was beyond 40mins on a map and the message came much later than 40 minutes, but my lair was very full indeed. :spider:

I wonder if Game Speed is effected...

Anyways, that is untrue. It does indeed happen at random. Payday is right at 10 minutes, so it would happen every 4 paydays you get something like that. I could save right before that fourth payday (Hoping they aren't previously generated) and then keep playing it over and over again.

I can bet it will say that, even if I have a few creatures (Or none, hopefully it at least checks if I have a Lair otherwise it will be silly :P)

"The very rock yawns with anticipation of your next fascinating move"
45 Seconds, actually

It seems to vary. Sometimes it's longer, sometimes it's shorter. Do you base the seconds on the REAL time or the GAME time? The GAME time isn't a good idea as the speed of the game alter that (at full speed, game seconds aren't real time seconds). In the Prima Guide, it says "160 seconds" and I must confirm that it's around that amount of time.

And here I was hoping this was for DK1. :(

Here, surely Mefisto could find out the exact way to get the silly quotes, but here's what I know so far: when any Keeper has X times more creatures than the number of rooms built by that Keeper, you may perhaps hear a silly quote the next payday. One of DK.net members also stated that he got a silly quote at the beginning of a level with the specifications I mentioned.

This one and "It's party night!" aren't amongst the "silly" quotes contained in the SDT files. In fact, they are amongst the Casino room speech files. But I'm gonna include them anyway as it's hard to get too.

Huh, I learned 45 seconds from playthrough as well as my own guide listing 45 seconds.

But its a logical reason... The lair has been re-carpeted with creature lairs!

Looking at it from a logical point of view it makes sense. But then again this = EA made so I wouldn't try inserting logic (As much as I enjoy it :))

1st, it's Bullfrog that did the game, not EA...

2nd, I stated that silly quote to be unsure as it's already hard to know how to really get them at 100%

3rd, MGR, it's not 45 seconds. I took my watch and counted the seconds. At 45 seconds without any user input, no quote. I counted up to 160 seconds and finally got it.

Madkill
April 2nd, 2010, 12:41
Its EA since it wasn't the original bullfrog devs.

That's why only new additions of creatures kick ass and unbalance the game and why Warlocks suck more balls than a boulder trap.

Tested, and doesn't work. It's really just when it's the 20th imp.

Just joined to say that the quote "Let's party like it's 1999!" DOES NOT need a casino, or maybe I got a glitch. There was no casino on the map

It did occur on the weekend though

It's pretty cool to see every creature on the map dancing though, even the imps haha. The stone knights were barely dancing though :(

DragonsLover
April 3rd, 2010, 20:20
Really? Perhaps the message was just amongst the Casino messages because it was the best room suited for a party!

Thanks for the information. :)

"Let's party like it's 1999!" = You get this if you play on friday-saturday night, at 0:55 AM. Also, all creatures on map stop fighting/working and start dancing for the next 5 minutes or so. Change your PC's "Date&Time" settings and see for yourself. :)

I've gotten a quote saying "The drink is flowing freely in the casino" two or three times lately. Don't know why it comes, but I think it might have something to do with the amount of creatures in the casino or the size of it. Not sure, however.

I should really start playing DK2 at late hours, just because of the quotes... damn funny.

I remember that one.

Yeah well that one definately needs a Casino. :P

I'm not completely sure but I think you do need a Creature in there. Maybe it is randomly generated depending on number of creatures? It could also be a timed message but happens only if there's a Casino/creature in the Casino.

Tried and, unfortunately: didn't work. I guess it doesn't occur at a precise time. One time, I clearly remember that I got that special event when it was around 8 PM and well, it doesn't match with your time.

No. I guess it's after some amount of time while playing the game. Like after some X game minutes or X real minutes. But I'm not sure. That, or it REALLY requires a Casino to get it to work. It requires further testing.

That's odd... I tried this out by changing my computer's date/time settings and it worked every time. :/ From 0:58 AM to 1:00 AM, friday-saturday night (saturday morning).

No, it's not after X minutes. When I experimented by changing date/time, I got it only 1-2 minutes after starting the game. I even got it in the main menu once, as the whole menu is actually a small map. XD You can get the other mentor quotes in the main menu as well. :D

Since you said it didn't work, I tried it now. Set date to 22nd May 2010., 0:56 AM and after 2 minutes - BAM! There it was. I tried several times on versions 1.3 and 1.7 (English) and it works on both every time. Doesn't require Casino, either. I thought maybe it didn't work 'cause it took into account different time zones, but - no. In every time zone it's from 0:58 am to 1:00 am, saturday morning.

I have no idea why it doesn't work for you. :(

P.S.: Sorry I didn't reply earlier, but after updating my graphics driver I couldn't run DK2 anymore (it crashed at startup :( ). I finally reinstalled my old driver recently, so I could run the game and finally check this again.

May 19th, 2010, 02:25
Okay, I just tested, and you're right. In fact, it's just me that did it wrong.

It only occurs the Saturday morning at 0:58 exactly. On Friday and Sunday morning, there's nothing at all (unless, once again, I would have do it wrong).

Thanks for the clarification! :)

"Keeper, your dungeon is emptier than your head" = Have your dungeon with less than 5 creatures (Imps not included) for 50 game minutes

Well since it is Cyan, I don't think you're sure about this. :P

I believe this is one of the random 40 minute ones. It is quite hard to have less than 5 creatures for 50 minutes. :\ That is unless you sack...

And I've gotten this a number of times. Once I got it while playing the first Pet Dungeon and had 32 Goblins. (When I was younger, I really liked Goblins)

DragonsLover
May 19th, 2010, 11:10
Nope. Unfortunately, this is not one amongst the random messages. Trust me, I once tested a level with not so many creatures and after 50 game minutes, this silly message occurred each time I restarted the level. Then, I tested the amount of creatures required to NOT get it, and when I was at 5 creatures, nothing happened. I was using Salamanders.

This would really surprise me to get this message when you have a lot of Goblins. Perhaps Goblins aren't counted as creatures? :D Say, I can test it for you.

It is probably hard not to get at least 5 creatures for 50 game minutes, I agree, but those are the requirements to get that silly quote. I'm for nothing about that!

Perhaps it was reserved for home-made levels where you could start with not so many creatures and no portals or similar situations?

DragonsLover
May 22nd, 2010, 23:37
Hmm... so perhaps it's after some amount of time of game play, even perhaps more than 2 hours? I'll see...

I think "Jack-pot Winner!" makes all your creatures stop what they're doing and dance. Dunno if it's time random or has to do with creatures+the amount in there. I think once even my enemies started to dance too >>

"Jackpot winner" makes only the creatures in your casino dance. You mean the quote "Let's party like it's 1999!" which gets played every saturday at midnight I think.

nijuni_kuro
October 7th, 2011, 17:52
"Jackpot Winner!" happens when one of your creatures wins a jackpot in a Casino and only the creatures in that specific Casino begin to dance.

"Let's party like it's 1999!" is activated every saturday at 0:58 am and makes all the creatures on the entire map stop whatever they were doing and start dancing. It lasts for 2 minutes and ends at 1am, when you get the "Surely even Dugeon Keepers must retire to a lair of some description?" quote.

Yoghurt
October 11th, 2011, 07:59
Well of course "Jackpot Winner" means there's a jackpot winner. C'mon.

I might be an Imp but I'm not a dunce :P

Anyway, is there no quote from Mentor past 3:15? I'm usually up until four or five but I've yet to hear anything other than what's on the list.

Obviously nijuni_kuro was only correcting you on the effects and triggers of "Jack-Pot Winner" compared to the effects/triggers of "Let's Party like it's 1999!".

"Nick Ricks cannot come to the phone right now. Kindly leave a message."

I found this hidden message (Not sure if I got the name fully correct though) within the speech file for Level 13. It's at 3:25.

DragonsLover
January 23rd, 2012, 21:50
Interesting! Need to check this out.

EDIT: Nick Ricks is the Game Designer of DK2 so yeah, it's correct. But it's the way to get it that isn't clear. I know that it's the speech ID 18 and there's nothing in the level script. If the speech is playing during the level, then it's hard-coded like the other silly quotes.

When you say "it's at 3:25", do you mean it's at 3:25 or 15:25 of the day or it's after 3 hours and 25 minutes of game time or real time?

Well obviously it was never made to be heard :P Not sure if it was intentional or not. If anything, it could have even been made to surprise the person listening to the speech files. It's not n impossible possibility, I mean they're right there for literally anyone to view.

That's the time when the message is played in the speech file itself, just so you know when to get it.
