I have a serious offer. We need advertising. We need to drag people to our website. People won't just come here you know. We have to make people interested. You know, there are a lot of fans there, who simply forgot about this game, because all forums are dead. We have to show that we are alive and active, we have to make people interested again. It is no easy task, but that's the only way to avoid the fate of the old website - emptiness. We had like 1 new user registered per week in the last 2 months on old forums. Wtf. 1 comment in 5 days. wtf. Fail.

But! In order to drag people here, we have to show something. We have to be able to offer them something. Like, work in progress on WftO. Like work on NBK. Stable online of Hamachi servers. Regular games/tournaments/events. Map posting. Imp Alert! updates. Everything that makes people come here again and again.

There is a great trick about forums. If you are able to attract a person to a website, and if he/she is regularly coming to visit it for a couple of months, he/she becomes addictive to the website. That user will surely come back, just to chat to other users like him. And that, my friends, is our ultimate goal. When people come here not because they like the game, but because they like the community. This is the heart of the forum. But, as I said before, to make this, we have to be cool cool cats with lots of goodies to offer for the first place.

I know we all are busy. My schedule is very busy this semester, but I promise to come and to look after my section at least once per day. I hope we all can spend some time on it and make it grow. After forming the community, we won't need to spend so much time here. It will jam inside itself =)

Ok, enough teaching, I am sure you know this all perfectly. Just wanted to say what I feel, and how I want it to be.

nice and right text.
i could add the link to this forum on my youtube channel and to descriptions of my dk2 videos, there are many people who still watch the videos and leave comments.
also german people often add me on icq and want me to play dk2. i often gave the link to keeper klan, now i will give the link to this forum.
and i can do a bit advertising at a german games forum, there is also a section for dk.

This was actually one of the main reasons for the new website ;)

When we are ready (ie, sufficient wfto progress to show off), we plan to do a sort of 'public opening' where we will build up the hype by images, interviews, and perhaps even a video.

Until then, we need to make the site as welcoming and functional as possible - we've already made a very good start, mostly thanks to Dotted being awesome :)

There's a few other things we need to do as well, for one, I'm waiting to hear back from an email I sent to EA regarding those trademarks they filed, but we're mostly clear from here on out.

I think that if we add the forum link to the youtube movies we made, and I think I can get us on the google advertisments somehow.

Your right, we do need more people, but they need to be real active people, not just users to come by and post once, like the other site had.

Exactly. Thats what I wrote in my post. Advertising alone won't work. We have to keep them interested, so they'd have a motivation to come back. After some time they're glued! =D Works all the time, believe me.

promise the old players the stability of the game and activity, and some of them might come back.
the problem with the old players is that they were teenagers when they were playing dk2, 5-10 years ago, that means they all are 20-25 years old now, in this age you mosty try to build up a career and a family, so its not possible to be a full active member. and maybe the got new interests.

on keeper klan have been several old players, and they all are inactive now, because they are studying, working, having family or other personal stuff, some of the lost interest and play other games, thats because of instability and inactivity. i only say what i know and heard, they all might love the game, but have no time to be a full active member.

We need someway to move our site to the top when people search dk1/2 on the major search engines (google, bing, ect...)

right, when you search for keeper klan on google, its in the first links. but if you search for dungeon keeper you might find the link far in the back (i didnt find it yet). this should be solved, i dont know how, patrician or dotted should know.

---
yesterday i did some advertising
- added the link to all my videos on youtube + channel, if somebody of you have youtube account, do the same.
- created a topic about kk on a german games forum in the dk section
- in last days i was added (icq) by several german dk fans, who asked me how to play online, i told them all about keeper klan. german fans often add me in icq in order to get info about dk2, so i always can lead them to this forum.
that was it so far.

btw, someone should create a banner for keeper klan that links to the board. and all could add it to the signature in all forums where you are registered.

Ðârk Âñgêl
September 3rd, 2009, 12:17
massive spamming ? where spamming ? on the board ?
so you mean if we manage to post 10000 times the word dungeon keeper in 100 threads our forum automaticly comes to the tops of google ? :D

Hapuga
September 3rd, 2009, 15:59
LOL I wish it'd work like that. No, the search engine works by somehow counting the number of redirects done between websites. This means, the more people actually "open" the website, the more chance to go up in google et al. If you you have posted 5 links on 5 websites and 100 people visited our website through them - thats what counts.

Ðârk Âñgêl
September 3rd, 2009, 18:40
maybe that only works if you search for keeper klan,
but if you search for dungeon keeper, how should google know keeper klan is about dungeon keeper. i mean there are many stuff in the world where you can find the word keeper.
still old keeper klan was clicked loads of times, and it exists for 3 years. and you cant find it in the first pages of google (dungeon keeper).
:(

Hapuga
September 3rd, 2009, 19:57
Dude, "loads of times" means 5,000-10,000 views per day. Basically. Thats top list. We want to have at least 500-1,000. Due to poor situation with dis game, well beat all other very fast.

Google works like this: you go to a web site, your visit is remembered in google. The content is not important, will it be porn, toys for children, condoms or vacuum cleaners. When someone searches in Google, the system gives out a website with the most visits, that includes the phrase. For example, if you have an extremely popular website that sells, say, rubber ducks and guitar amps, for both "rubber ducks" and "guitar amps" it will be on first place.

That is crucial for us. When we have loads of visits, Google will redirect all imported messages to us. People write "DK2 Patch" and they go to us, because we have patches. People write "DK 1 problem" and they go to us, because we have topics about dk, and we are popular. We may not even have the solution, but because words like "dk" "solution" and other are present here, regularly in 1 sentence, they will get here.

Now you understand why it is important to attract people here. No matter what who is searching, as long as it is related to DK, they'll find us if we are popular enough.

P.S. One of my lads runs a huge portal for movies, games and other stuff, oper.ru. Well, he told me, that when he looked at logs what people were looking for on the website, he was shocked. Like 50% was "pokemon" =)))) Just because someone used this word once on a forum probably, and a website has 20.000+ visits per day, it immediately bursts to the top of google search.

Hapuga

We will do what we can do. I personally think that if we'll have about 300 views per day it would be enough. Stability is key. Its better to have 300 every day then 500 in a week and 10 of us sitting and discussing here =D

Im pretty serious. "Dungeon Keeper" is fine but "3" is a problem. Also i could imagine words like sequel and successor and the likes would be bad aswell. The best way to describe WFTO would to say something like "Fan made game based on Dungeon Keeper" or something.

Look at A path beyond (http://www.apathbeyond.com/), they don't use the name Renegade 2 or similar and EA is totally cool with them using the CnC and Red Alert names and logos.

September 28th, 2009, 18:05
Well if you put "unofficial dungeon keeper sequel" then, I suppose that would be acceptable. Eitherway, it was suggested to remove that paragraph before.

Maybe, but i think it's a really good idea to be very conservative and play it safe on this issue and simply ban words like sequel, successor and dk3 all together when relating to WFTO. One mistake and everything is lost.

That's hardly a fair comparison and besides, that's been going for... what? 4... 5 years now?
Anyway, EA gave very little care until they became more popular after their first few releases.
