    Tralk the Turtling Beetle

While waiting for the fight to start, Tralk noticed Nalina enter, positioning herself to watch. He never noticed before just how big she was in comparison to the dungeon, or himself for that matter. It definately solidified himself as one of the small frys in Northland. But, as Suria will demonstrate, or at least he hopes she will, being small can be an advantage.

By the time Nalina got a good view of the pit, Suria was already in rage mode, taking to the offence with as much ferocity as a crazed serial killer. She seemed faster than usual at the beginning, but it might have been is imagination. Tralk underestimated the strength of the Orc, as the battle was mostly back and forth, until eventually, the Orc fell on his face, with Suria collapsing soon after. He saw the tell-tale signs of Heal being casted on both of them before both of them being picked up. Happy for Suria and how much damage she did, Tralk started walking to the Lair, hoping to congratulate her in some way. On his way, he heard Tesonu speak up.

    "Creatures!"

    "
We're under attack by some random Heroes, so pick up your Pay later."
'Yea, I'll make sure to pick up the pay I forfeited,' Tralk thought sarcastically. 'I wonder how I'll do against heroes.' "There's a Knight, a bunch of Dwarves, couple Thieves, Guards, a Barbarian, and a Giant. They look pretty weak but don't let your guard down. We're lacking in Traps this time around... I hadn't a chance to make repairs since the last attack." Tralk felt somewhat guilty about the traps, considering his little skidding accident. "The western Sentries are still disarmed as is the Spike Trap around the southern entrance. The other Traps are still intact though. Considering how close they are, there's no time for everyone to move to the Guard Room, so I'll drop you all there."

Tralk felt himself being picked up by a green scaled hand. But it wasn't just the hand he felt, but also the other creatures. Being scared for a moment, he almost retreated his head into his shell, but not before being enveloped in darkness, accompanied with the feeling of the hand disappearing. 'This is really odd,' he noted. He'll definitely document this in his journal after the battle. After what seemed to be an instant, he was dropped. He cringed, fearing the worst, but he was simply stunned for a moment. Looking around while getting back up, he sees that he's in the Guard Room now, as Tesonu said, along with almost everyone else in the dungeon, including Suria. 'How curious,' he pondered. 'Tesonu must really trust in Suria's abilities if he thinks she can instantly recuperate with one casting of Heal after an intense fight.'

Tesonu explained that he will be busy scouting enemy territory and be unable to aid in the battle, only saying otherwise that Crystice is in charge as always and the first Dwarf's the leader of the group, which has no magic units and has a defensive line formed. Looking to Crystice for instructions, Tralk didn't notice the happenings of others going on, other than Suria and Grith when she chastised them.

"Alright, everyone, listen closely. There is no time for questions nor repeats. Firstly, we need to establish a front line defense. That will be Dreggory, Nalina, and Omervium. You three will be right in front of the Spike Trap and Freeze Trap. Dreggory, you should remain at the middle. You'll likely encounter that Dwarf leader Tesonu mentioned." Tralk noted this special mention, realizing that the Goblin he met before was indeed a stalwart warrior if he was to take on the leader. "All Support will remain behind you three, and we'll need some Creatures to guard the sides. Ecthelion and Tedworthy, you two will guard the West Side. Tralk and Zama, you two will guard the East Side." Seeing the flying beetle he was to be teamed up with, memories resurfaced of him being bullied horribly in his childhood. 'For my sake, and his, I really hope he isn't an self righteous prick.' "We'll also have two separate forces flank them from the sides while they're dealing with the front lines, and also help dispatch anyone attacking the sides along the way. Cytai, Grith, and Gwannial, you three will form one group and head around the East. Suria and Diana, you two will head around the West. Gwannial, if you can, try and Web the lead Dwarf if he has Rebound cast. It bypasses Rebound magic."

As Tralk was making a mental map of where everyone was going to be, instructions continued. "If anyone from the defensive line is critically injured, stand your ground while I have my sister come and Heal you. Otherwise, retreat behind the defensive line if you're critically injured. One last thing. I want everyone to try and kill as little as possible. I want to take prisoners to interrogate to help Tesonu find information. Is that clear?"

"Yes, Ma'm!" Tralk replied with gusto.

"Everyone, move out immediately!!" Tralk followed the front line out there, maneuvering to the east side, as was instructed. Because of the shape of the room, most of the forces attacked the fromt and west sides. Except, of course, for one BIG problem: a Giant with a right arm was as big as his club, and a T-Rex sized arm as his left. 'What kind of experiments did this guy go through?' His thought process was interrupted by the Giant's shadow, and his voice. "Doug see stupid bug. Stupid bug in Doug's way. Doug HATES stupid bugs in Doug's way!!! Doug crush stupid bug!!" As his club swings down, Tralk stands his ground, ready to counter. The club slams into Tralk's shell, shaking him up a little, but ultimately not hurting him too much. "Huh?" With the Giant shocked, Tralk bites him in the toe. The fighting continues with Tralk attempting to sidestep the Giant's blows and biting him.

    Tedworthy
    The Silent Salamander
    &
    Lord Ecthelion

Only moments after Tedworthy had learned of his brother's demise, he was surrounded by a healing magic, repairing his leg. Seconds later, the voice of Tesonu boomed around the dungeon. Apparently they were under attack from a force of Heroes, with no time to spare to allow them to get to the Guard room. All of a sudden, the two Salamanders were picked up, along with everyone else. Tedworthy had experienced it before, having worked for multiple Keepers. Ecthelion, however, hadn't, as Tesonu's dungeon was his first external guard placement. When he was picked up, he could hardly believe what was happening. They passed through the ceiling, and the dense rock above it, and were rapidly dropped in the Guard room.

"Oh... that doessn't half make you feel ssick."

Tedworthy nodded, as he felt the same when he was picked up for the first time. He had forgotten his brother's fate for now, distracted by the incoming Heroes. They continued to listen to Tesonu, acknowledging the fact that they were to be given orders by Crystice, the Witch that Ecthelion had met during the Ire Piglet incident. Doubts about her decisions flew around the Lord's mind again, causing a conflict between his discipline and his gut feelings.

I must not doubt her. If she is good enough to be chosen by Tesonu for command, then that should be good enough for me.

Almost as soon as Tesonu had finished talking, Crystice began giving orders.

"Firstly, we need to establish a front line defense. That will be Dreggory, Nalina, and Omervium. You three will be right in front of the Spike Trap and Freeze Trap. Dreggory, you should remain at the middle. You'll likely encounter that Dwarf leader Tesonu mentioned. All Support will remain behind you three, and we'll need some Creatures to guard the sides. Ecthelion and Tedworthy, you two will guard the West Side. Tralk and Zama, you two will guard the East Side. We'll also have two separate forces flank them from the sides while they're dealing with the front lines, and also help dispatch anyone attacking the sides along the way. Cytai, Grith, and Gwannial, you three will form one group and head around the East. Suria and Diana, you two will head around the West. Gwannial, if you can, try and Web the lead Dwarf if he has Rebound cast. It bypasses Rebound magic."

Ted and Ecthelion looked at each other, and nodded. They were to occupy the same defensive position, allowing them to work together to fight the enemy, just like old times. Well, almost. The armored Salamander gave a quick glance over to Cytai, who, despite his bruises, seemed to remain lively and ready. Ecthelion smiled to himself.

As soon as Crystice had finished giving orders, the Salamander pair moved into position, preparing to meet the Heroes with all of their strength. As the battle began, Ted had taken note of the Heroes' arrangement, trying to give Ecthelion a heads-up that there was a Thief and a Barbarian headed their way.

The Lord acknowledged, but as he turned to face his enemies, a hammer was brought down upon his neck. The newly-forged steel plates helped to soak up some of the momentum, but it still hurt. A lot. Ecthelion gathered his wits, and counter-attacked. He managed to bite the Barbarian's arm, and clamped his jaws firmly onto it. She let out a shout of surprise more so than pain, bringing down her hammer down once more, this time on his unarmored torso. Ecthelion gasped as the pain surged through his nervous system, releasing his foe.

Tedworthy had meanwhile encountered the Thief, who had apparently cast Speed on himself, and attempted to stab the Salamander. Ted tried to dodge the knife, but the sheer speed of the Thief's attack prevented him from doing so, and he received the metal blade in his shoulder. The silent Salamander cringed as the knife was retracted, but it gave him a brief chance. Ted charged at the Thief, who merely side-stepped. Getting seriously annoyed with his Hero opponent, he slashed and snapped at him, missing every time. Ted realized that simply attacking was not enough, he had to predict and calculate the Thief's moves. He began another series of slashes, keeping a close eye on the Hero's movement. As the lizard retreated from his assault, the Thief lunged at him, but this time Ted was ready. He successfully dodged the blade, and quickly attached his jaws to the Thief's arm.

Now I've got you, you slippery bastard.

    DIANA "KEEPER OF THE EMBER"
    The Goblin

Diana listens closely to Crystice's orders, she replies to herself "Yes." and looks at the enemies, her expression is that of complete anger and fury, and even her voice gains a much more serious tone in it. She draws her blade which was not ignited yet as she was getting into position. She payed little to no attention to Suria, not because of Crystice advice, but because had an urge, a sudden craving for blood. Holding her sword tight with both hands, she realizes it's the moment to attack and makes a run for it. Quickly heading up for the second line of attackers. Focusing on one of the Dwarves, she jumps and tries to cut him, the dwarve, despite being surprised by the sudden attack keeps its cool as he could barely block the attack. The dwarf starts pays attention to Diana's movements, her blade catches fire completely and suddenly.

"Die... DIE!!" Diana yelled like if she was possessed as she holds her fire sword with both hands and engages into combat with Ulthor, the Dwarf she attacked at first, this also distracts the other dwarfs slightly. Ulthor once again blocks the attack, a little startled still by the fire sword as it quickly heats up his shield. Diana uses this oportunity to kick the dwarf pushing him away and knocking him on the floor for a bit. One of the dwarfs, Dorge, comes right away to help his friend and engage Diana. Diana looked at them both without paying attention to anything else, her menacing eyes kept staring at both dwarves.

Dorge charges towards Diana in defense of his comrade and swings his axe on her, Diana quickly does a back step to avoid the hit. Right away, Diana strikes to Dwarf with her fire sword and the Dwarf blocks with shield, Diana did not pull her sword back and kept pushing making the Dwarf's shield progressively hotter and hotter, with apparently all his might, the Dwarf pushes Diana away with his shield, bashing her a bit in the process and also making her back away a little. "You are good, for an insect!" says Diana in a very menacing and threatening tone. the battle continued.

    Dreggory Pakal

    ~}Soldier of Fortune{~

"Firstly, we need to establish a front line defense. That will be Dreggory, Nalina, and Omervium. You three will be right in front of the Spike Trap and Freeze Trap. Dreggory, you should remain at the middle. You'll likely encounter that Dwarf leader Tesonu mentioned. All Support will remain behind you three, and we'll need some Creatures to guard the sides. Ecthelion and Tedworthy, you two will guard the West Side. Tralk and Zama, you two will guard the East Side...."

This was all the goblin footsoldier needed to hear. He was at the front and center of the defense. There was no better place to test and hone his skills. Silently, he thanked both Crystice and Tesonu. He would overcome both Balina and Giramor but it would take work.

He saw the heroes but he didn't spare the time to examine their overall composition or deployment. That wasn't his job and he didn't have time for it.

Dreggory took his position, beating his sword against the rim of his shield in expectation. He saw the dwarf they spoke of and he was a grim fellow. He looked strong, a pint-sized brute of creature, but he also looked a little tired. Sweat dripped down his brow and the icicles in his beard were melting. His little legs had had to pump twice as hard as the rest of the front line. It didn't stop him from bellowing a battle-cry of; "For the love of The Avatar!!"

The footsoldier also noticed that his rival had Protect and Rebound cast.

~}Definitely no chance of throwing any javelins then.{~

Dregs barely had time to cast his own protect before they clashed and Raguld's left-hand axe hammered down at his shield, hitting the shield boss and triggering the spike trap within. Raguld recoiled, not because of pain, but because of surprise. As the lethal quartet of spikes retracted sinisterly from view, Raguld was forced to reassess his opponent, knowing that he'd have to stay away from the goblin's hidden sting. With such dirty and innovative tactics, it seemed no wonder that this Keeper's forces were doing so well.

Though he may not have been the tallest creature in the dungeon, Dreggory was easily taller than Raguld and thus had a longer reach. On the flipside, Dreggory as a goblin was muscled but lean. He couldn't put as much force into his blows. Agility and nimbleness were the fortes of the goblin. In order to benefit most from his physique and his choice of weaponry, Raguld had to get right up in the goblins guts but he couldn't.

"You had best be praying to whatever god you have, dwarf, because this dungeon will be your end," Dreggory spoke softly and without rancor, batting aside an attack from Raguld whilst delivering a thrust of his own with his sword.

The dwarf didn't answer as he parried this blow, hooking his right axe over his opponents arm. He saw an opportunity. The mercenary ootsoldier had left himself open... his shield was angled poorly and thrusting sword arm was out of the picture. Raguld charged, preparing to bat away the shield and physically throw himself at the goblin.

He never got that far, instead finding himself sprawled back on the ground. He didn't see the explosive short-range kick which had smashed into his diaphragm, but he had felt it even through his Protect spell. Breathing heavily Raguld saw that the footsoldier was now looming over him, preparing to drive his shortsword into his throat.

"Ya wish, villain!" The dwarf cried as he unleashed a powerful axe swing at ankle height, forcing Dreggory to jump backwards if he wanted to retain his sandals. The soldier of fortune smiled with the exhilaration. It had been so close.

Raguld was helped up by one of the dwarves behind and launched himself back a Dregs.

    ZAMA
    HURRICANE BEETLE
    Theme

Zama advanced behind Tralk, flicking up his armoured elytra. His comrade was busy holding the attention of the giant - biting at it and avoiding blows where it could. Zama knew the best thing he could do was distract it further and allow both the many traps on this side of the room, and their support to whittle him down. As if on cue, the Sentry Traps discharged and pelted Doug with fire which he stubbornly shrugged off.

He unfurled his wings in a single sudden motion, warmed up and took to the air; completing a circuit around Doug's head and narrowly evading the giants attempt to swat him.

Unfortunately, Doug came in with a backhand blow, his massive club hitting Zama with full force. The blow sent him spiraling halfway across the room, but Zama recovered before slamming into the wall. He was slightly woozy, but more than anything he was annoyed. Hurricane beetles were hardy creatures it it would take more than being hit with a tree trunk mid-air to finish him! Eyes narrowing, he flew back towards were Tralk was no doubt fending for himself. He flew as high as he dared, elytra scraping ominously against the ceiling.

Zama dive-bombed Doug, retracting his wings and landing on the giant's head with a heavy thump. The hurricane beetle instantly began biting and gnawing at the slightly concussed giant's scalp and face.

"Flying bug get off, Doug! Doug rip bug off!!"

The giant tried, clawing for him with the hand that wasn't holding his club. It was too late; Zama had already clambered down Doug's leaving a trail of claw marks, bite marks and scratch marks - form the beetle's legs, teeth and something Doug couldn't identify by feel alone - it was long and covered in vicious spines. Doug tried to shake the beetle off, but to no avail and has the beetle got lower and lower he became more and more concerned.

    LEVEL UP!

He needn't have worried, however, as Zama changed direction and made for Doug's armpit; the soft-skin so close to the vital organs made it the perfect target. Unfortunately, it wasn't an idea that the hurricane beetle had put sufficient thought into as the armpit is not particularly undefended.

    "Stupid scratchy beetle... Doug Crush!"

Zama's eyes widened in realization, :I did not think this through.:

Doug brought down his arm, crushing Zama within the vice of his armpit. Unfortunately the force had another unintended effect that the giant wasn't expecting as something hard, long and very spikey punctured through his armpit. Both giant and beetle screamed in perfect synchronization, though disheartened groan might be more appropriate in the beetle's case; alone in a world of shared misery. Doug relaxed his armpit and Zama pulled, skittering off like molten ball from a sentry trap. He quickly took to the air once more, determined not to get caught anywhere near the giant's armpit or club again.

    Sapphira
    A Shocking Salamander

Seriously annoyed that the Keeper had just slapped her, Sapphira hissed at the Hand-of-Evil as it disappeared through the ceiling. She then heard Tesonu speak directly to her.

"What do you think you're doing, Salamander? Running into battle like that... I do not allow new recruits to just charge straight into a battle like that, swords blazing. There needs to be some sort of organization and proper unity or everything will become a big mess and flop over in the middle of battle."

She was then picked up, and quickly dropped into the Lair. Sapphira understood why Tesonu didn't want her to simply charge in, but he apparently did not understand her nature. She restrained her annoyance while she spoke at the ceiling.

"I do apologize, I did not know about a battle. I was merely drawn to the magical essence found in your Lightning traps. Such mistakes will not happen again."

She looked at the Lair around her. It was warm, naturally, but too warm for Sapphira. She wanted somewhere a little cooler to sleep, but that would hardly be possible. So instead she found herself a place by one of the doorways, where the coldness seeped in from the icy corridors. She then heard Tesonu's other remark.

"Go and take a bath or something. You look like a Troll, and I already have one of those. One is enough."

Sapphira looked at the ceiling, and shook her head.

What a bloody rude Keeper I've just pledged myself to. He will never understand.

The sapphire-blue Salamander couldn't easily take a bath , because it had become a painful process to her. When she comes into contact with water, it drains the electrical energy from her, damaging her body. Although, it was handy at times, as everyone else in the water with her would receive the discharged electricity, hurting them too. If she focused, she would even be able to channel even more of her energy into the water, but this would cause an almost fatal drain on her life force, unless someone were to heal her.

But Sapphira did agree that she needed a bath. She was layered with dirt, from trekking around abandoned dungeons, and through marshes on the surface. What a life the Heroes had made for her... She knew that she could find water in the Temple, and so she began to look around the empty dungeon, staying away from the Guard room. After a while, she found it, right next to the Dungeon Heart chamber.

Sapphira walked in, noting the cold flames that were present on several stands around the central pool. She approached the dark waters, leaning in to touch it. As she suspected, sparks arced across the water surface, as the static Salamander was being robbed of her energy. She had a thought when she retreated from the water. If she were to jump in, the Temple was designed to drag her under, sacrificing her to the Dark Gods. That was not a good idea.

As she walked away, she wandered towards the west of the dungeon, peeking into every room to see what was inside. When Sapphira got to the Workshop, she spotted something next to one of the furnaces: a bucket.

Yes! That's exactly what I need!

She ran in, shielding her face from the intense heat emitted by the red-hot furnace, and picked up the bucket. She swiftly turned and exited the Workshop. Returning to the Temple, she dipped the bucket into the water, and pulled it up.

Well, that was lucky. And now for the excruciating pain...

The blue Salamander emptied the bucket over her head. As its contents touched her skin, flashes of electricity escaped into the water. The electrified water helped nicely to get the dirt off, but it hurt like hell.

    "AAHHHH.....!"

Sapphira's scream echoed around the dungeon. She quickly shook off the seemingly dangerous liquid, and looked at her body. The water had done its job, she was clean. Her aura now glowed several times brighter than it did when she arrived, and her originally dull skin was now a beautiful deep sapphire color. She smiled to herself, secretly thanking the Keeper for his, however rude, comments.

Alright, let's go and train. I want to hone my new abilities.

She wandered off, towards the Training room. Along the way she dropped the bucket off at the Workshop. When she entered the Training room, she slammed her head into the nearest training dummy, sending sparks flying.

    Summary
    Health: 92% (-8 water)
    Level: 1
    Gold Held: 0
    Mood: Ecstatic
    Status: Training
    Efficiency: 100%
    Experience: 1/30 (+1 training)
Quick Summary: Sapphira was slapped and dropped in the Lair. Afterwards, Tesonu rudely compared her to a Troll due to her filth, and so she painfully used the Temple waters to clean herself. She then headed off to train.

    AZAZISAZ
    "ALMARON"

    BADWARD

After the research on the Scavenger Room had finished, Azaz and Shaylum had headed to the Training Room in preparation of this moment. He still didn't feel very prepared. He could fight; all of his skills and talents were still his, but it didn't change the fact that never in his short memory had he ever been in one. Shaylum smiled apprehensively at him, as if urging him to recall Tesonu's faith in him. She didn't have to. Azazisaz knew he would not rout. The ranks of melee creatures began to surround him as they took their places.

'We will make them regret this,' he whispered.

The battle commenced; all around him everyone was moving, screaming, fighting. It was hectic and crazy. The warlock picked out the biggest and most easily-hit target he could locate and began throwing fireballs at him. It was Doug the Giant - who, between a pair of beetles and the arrayed Sentry Traps, seemed to be having a rather bad time of the battle. He looked on the brink of having a tantrum.

He took the time to check on his fiancee, Shaylum; She was focusing on her own targets elsewhere on the battle, firing off sharp metal-tipped arrows with a rather satisfied air.

--Shay is... beautiful. I may never remember our past and everything which brought us together, but she was good choice.--

Azazisaz turned his attention back to the brawl at hand, and bombarded Doug with another set of fireballs. One missed, two hit. He knew he could do better!

    SHAYLUM
    STAY THE COURSE

Shaylum had come straight from a warmup session in the Training Room and she was ready for battle.

While 'Almaron' was busy sending fireballs in the direction of a rather harassed giant, Shaylum was loosing a volley of armor-piercing bodkin arrows into the enemy Knight spouting gibberish. Guillermo was currently engaged with an allied Black Knight; a fresh recruit with whom she had never spoken. She had to be very careful not to hit him. His presence very much limited what, when and where she could target, but for a moment Guillermo exposed himself from behind the Black Knight.

    «« Now! »»

    Snap-twag-sssscrech! Snap-twag-sssscrech! Snap-twag-sssscrech! Snap-twag-sssscrech!

Each and everyone of her arrows were caught by Guillermo's shield. The shield didn't stop them, but it robbed them of much of their force. Only one arrow actually managed to penetrate his armor after passing through the shield; the rest merely dented it. Fortunately one of the arrows skewered the arm which was holding the shield; a painful wound which would bleed profusely and make it impossible for him to remove or readjust the position of his shield. Furthermore, every blow to his shield would be agony as it vibrated and disturbed the arrow through his wrist.

Shaylum rested her hand on her quiver and searched for another, more convenient target.

When Emmra had been dropped into the Guard Room, one of the first things she took notice of was a very young, and strangely red, Demon Spawn. The poor thing seemed to have been injured badly, for some reason. Tesonu must not have noticed. She couldn't blame him. He seemed so very busy sometimes, and everything was getting crazy right now. He must have accidentally missed it. But what matters is that she's there, right now, and can heal him. She carefully stepped over to it as she spoke gently, "Hold still little one, let me heal those wounds up..."

Emmra placed her hands on the red Demon Spawn and began calling forth the Healing Magic she was so familiar with. She hardly had to think about it, but she did have to focus if she wanted to cast a Perfect Heal. After a brief moment, Emmra finished her casting and restored as much as she could. She spoke softly, "There, better?" When Emmra heard her sister speak in an urgent manner, she quickly turned her full attention to Crystice to listen to what she had to say.

Emmra hadn't really acknowledged it before but she was rather fond of the way Crystice gave out speeches and lectures. It just showed her intelligence, and Emmra very much loved to see that. She was reminded of the days when their father taught her about a lot of historical battles and the different "strategies" that had been used. Emmra was certain that's where Crystice developed an understanding for such things. Emmra herself... never was into such stories and never learned of them. But that was perfectly fine. She wasn't meant to fight at all.

"If anyone from the defensive line is critically injured, stand your ground while I have my sister come and Heal you. Otherwise, retreat behind the defensive line if you're critically injured," Crystice explained. Emmra took careful note of that, though she knew it wasn't necessary. Orders or not, she was always going to answer someone who was in need somehow. She had no intention to ignore a cry for help. Well, as long as they weren't an "enemy". Emmra would help them, too, but then they would just use that help to hurt her, or even Crystice. Emmra didn't want that. She had already learned that harsh lesson before.

    "Everyone, move out immediately!!"

Emmra closely followed her sister out the door.

    * * * * * * *

Crystice stepped out into the battlefield after allowing the other defenders to get into position first. The Heroes were already engaging in battle by the time she got herself in position. She quickly began watching their movements to see what kind of strategy they were employing. Interestingly enough, they had a similar strategy as Crystice. They formed two lines of defense in addition to having two groups of flankers. Their flankers were being met by Crystice's side guards as Crystice's flankers were met by their second line. Crystice was sure they'd win easily, for they not only had some stronger fighters but supporters as well.

There was one thing that bothered her, however. Tesonu had mentioned two Thieves, yet Crystice only found one. The other one obviously must have known Invisibility, being a Thief. But then there was the question of the Tunnellers. Tesonu hadn't mentioned it to the whole army, but it was one of the understandings she grasped from his elaborate thoughts that he allowed her to feel. There were two Tunnellers and five Dwarves. Could that same Thief have known Invisibility Group and cast it over the Tunnellers? No, that didn't make sense. They were Tunnellers, not meant to fight. It would make more sense to cast it over the Barbarian and other Thief to make the western flank come as a complete surprise. Not to mention, Invisibility Group is such an advanced spell for what is meant to be a weak Thief.

The only thing Crystice could think of was rooting Tunnellers back to their main purpose, which is to tunnel. Perhaps this party was merely a distraction while the Tunnellers mined away at the walls to open up a weak point in Tesonu's defenses. If so, that would prove to be a serious problem. Tesonu was currently distracted with another matter, and thus may not be aware of it. It may ultimately be up to her to stop it. But first, she had to dispatch this invisible Thief, who very much so could be waiting in ambush for anyone to let their guard down or to leave the main fight to seek out the Tunnellers.

"Emmra," Crystice whispered urgently. "Yes, sister?" she replied quickly, sensing her sister's urgency. "There's an invisible Thief somewhere around here, a female I believe..." Crystice explained with knowledge gained from Tesonu, "Can you find her?" "Ok," Emmra replied firmly as she began searching the battlefield. She suddenly spoke up again with a small point nearby Tedworthy, "There... she's about to attack that Salamander..." Crystice took note of where she was pointing and replied, "Alright."

Crystice began preparing a cast of Freeze while keeping her eyes on where Emmra held her point. Once ready, and certain she wasn't going to hit Tedworthy by accident, she let the spell fly. It soared through the air, passing by Tedworthy, the Thief he was attacking, and went all the way to the wall and shattered. "She dodged," Emmra told her. "I noticed," Crystice muttered with a hint of annoyance and a touch of embarrassment following its trail. She began preparing a casting of Hailstorm.

    Let's see her dodge this...

"Ah, she's coming this way!" Emmra blurted in shock as she watched the Thief presumably evade the side guards as she headed straight for the support. Crystice quickened her casting and fired a rushed blast of hail. She saw a large majority of her projectiles stop mid air and fall to the ground as she heard a feminine grunt of pain and surprise. The female Thief became visible as she bounced back from the force of the attack at such close range and stumbled across the ground, dazed and confused. An unfortunate side-effect of Crystice's attack was that a small portion of the hail missed and struck Tedworthy instead, but fortunately the revealing of the invisible Thief would clear up any misunderstandings.

"She was heading for me..." Emmra whispered frightfully. With a good look in her eyes, Crystice could tell just how afraid she had been. Thinking fast, Crystice snatched Emmra's staff and flipped it upside down. She fired several rapid Missiles on the Thief while she was attempting to get up, knocking her back to the ground. She moved in closer, gripping the staff tightly as the Thief hurried her attempt to return to her feet. As she was just getting up to her knees, Crystice gave the staff a swing and struck her along the side of the head. The Thief was thrown to the wall and fell back to the ground, badly bruised but not bleeding in any apparent manner, as Crystice wasn't quite strong enough for that. She looked up at Crystice as she lay on her back, glaring for a bit, but her eyes then lost focus. Her head fell back as she lost consciousness.

Getting back to Emmra, Crystice took notice of the way she held her hands in front of her mouth as she gasped in obvious intimidation, "That was violet, Crystice..." "It was efficient," Crystice replied calmly as she returned the staff, "...Sorry about using your staff." "It's... fine?" Emmra replied in confusion as she inspected the staff, wiping away at the bottom part used to strike the Thief. Crystice had just finished personally dealing with the problem of the Thief... now she had to worry about the Tunnellers. Who was available to leave the battle to face them?

"Diana! Withdraw! Go outside the Trap Room and search for two Tunnellers! They're going to try and breach the dungeon from another area!" Crystice commanded in a clear voice. She heard the leader Dwarf begin shouting his own commands with a grunt of fury, "Tetryos! Don't let her escape!" The male Guard, Tetryos, quickly departed from his battle with Nalina and began to pursue after Diana. Crystice tapped Malsiah's shoulder and whispered, "Stop that Guard!" Malsiah complied immediately and Teleported away. Crystice then turned her attention to Diana and shouted off another command, "Keep going, Diana! Ignore the Guard!"

Crystice then gave Shaylum a tap, "Help the Salamanders take out the Barbarian and the Thief." Followed by an order for Shaylum was an order for Almaron and Exussum, "You two... uh, actually, keep focusing on that Giant. He needs to go down as soon as possible." Almost as if on cue, the Lightning Traps and one of the Sentries suddenly fired upon the Giant and stunned him terribly. Another Sentry, the only survivor from the west, fired onto the Barbarian. Crystice was actually a bit surprised, realizing she never heard them fire before aside from a couple Sentries earlier. Was there some kind of malfunction in the Traps that delayed their shots?

Crystice had no time to worry about it now. It was a bother, but they didn't need to rely on the Traps to win. Although, they definitely were about to make things much easier. All of the support units had specified targets except for Emmra and herself. Crystice quickly fixed that with a whisper to her sister, "Emmra, go and cast Heal and Protect on the Salamander fighting the Barbarian." "Ok!" she nodded eagerly.

As her sister set off to perform the task, Crystice set her eyes on Tetryos. There was a reason why she asked Malsiah particularly to attack him. She was the only one available that was within reach, thanks to Teleport. While Suria or one of the units from the eastern flankers could perform the task, removal of Suria would dispatch the western flankers entirely. The eastern flankers were not quite strong enough to be able to afford losing members either. Besides, Malsiah had capable melee talents in addition to Invisibility and Heal Self. Crystice was sure she could handle herself fine. Especially if she had a bit of support.

Crystice began letting Hell loose on Tetryos in the form of Missiles and Ice Shards. Any occasional and accidental misfires were fine, for the most part, as they most often hit the Knight, Guillermo, thus aiding Omervium in his fight. With such a well organized force unleashed upon the Heroes, it seemed like the results of the battle had already been decided.

    * * * * * * *

Given the command to aid one of the Salamanders, Emmra quickly moved closer to the defending lizards. Moving behind the one fighting the Barbarian, she whispered, "Hold as still as you can..." She began calling forth her Protective Magic, quickly casting a Protect Spell over the Salamander. "Now I just need to heal up those wounds..." she added as she swapped her focus to Healing Magic. She tried to focus as much as she can, but could not retain contact with the Salamander due to his constant movements. Still, the Heal Spell she ended up casting was sufficient, restoring 16%.

Emmra moved back and watched the two Salamanders fight. She noticed that the other Salamander, who fought a Thief, was having a lot of difficulty. She could sense the magic over the Thief, and knew that his movements had been altered. He was under the effects of Speed, putting the Salamander at a considerable disadvantage. Emmra thought for a moment, then decided to try casting her own Speed Spell to even the odds a bit more. But with the way they moved, there was no way she'd be able to make contact with the Salamander. What if the Thief attacked her, too? She didn't want to put herself at risk needlessly. She knew Crystice would be upset with her, too, if she did that.

Emmra took hold of her staff then began to focus her magic. She remembered what her mother had taught her about Acceleration magic. The way it altered a person's deception of time itself, boosting their reflexes and movement speed as well. She recalled those lessons as she focused her magic through her staff, then let loose her magic upon the Salamander. The Salamander's movements suddenly increased, making the Thief his equal. Emmra would have leaped for joy at her success, but she suddenly felt incredibly tired after having cast three spells like that. Then there was the Perfect Heal she cast earlier.

Emmra moved closer towards the door to the Steel Door and crouched down, allowing herself to rest.

    Nalina
    The War Maiden
    Maiden of the Nest

After watching the exciting and violent fight between Suria and Arnold, Nalina heard news of a sudden Hero Attack. She was about to rush off to her Lair but Tesonu had picked her up and dropped her into the Guard Room. She was agitated for a moment that she was given no time to properly prepare but then realized that time was likely so much of the essence that there had been no time to properly prepare. At the very least, she had her short sword and steel shield, making her fitting for just about any melee fight. She had her arrows for long ranged combat and her tomahawks for a quick ranged attack. It was everything she needed.

"Alright, you should all know how it goes by now. Crystice, you give out the orders. I'm going to inform you all right now that I will not be of aid during this fight. This attack came suddenly, without warning and definitely not one that I anticipated."

Nalina shook her head in pity.

None but you can be blamed for that, Tesonu.

Nalina turned her attention to the Witch from before, Crystice. She was wondering what kind of strategy she would employ, what she could come up with under so little time with so much pressure. When she finally spoke, her voice was rushed, but not like she was panicked. It was rushed in the way that she acknowledged the lack of time available. Her voice didn't seem shaky at all, and was instead very clear and confident. Listening to the strategy, she realized there was good reason for confidence. It was a fairly simple plan, but one that was still very effective. Nalina felt she was beginning to grow some actual respect for this Witch, the first person she could respect in the dungeon.

For Nalina's part, she was to simply hold a defensive line. That was an easy enough task. Nalina was skilled in both defensive and offensive melee positions. She followed the Black Knight she had seen before, Omer-something, out the door. She couldn't be bothered to try and remember his name, especially not now. Getting into position, she heard several battle cries from the enemy Heroes. At that moment, she suddenly recalled numerous voices. Heroic battle cries as they stormed her village, and the screams of panic as everything had been quickly set ablaze to add to the confusion.

Nalina stepped into a rage as she prepared her sword and shield. She had not one, but two opponents: The two Guards. That was good. Nalina didn't want to settle for one. She wanted to kill as many of them as she could. The two Guards attempted to get the better of her as they charged in with their spears, but Nalina easily blocked them with her shield. The fools, underestimating a War Maiden. She was about to teach them that it was more than a mere title. She swung her sword violently at the female Guard, who was to Nalina's right, and got her before she managed to retract her spear.

The female Guard stepped back after receiving the blow, clearly not as adept at taking damage due to her lack of armor compared to the male counterpart. She attempted another stab but Nalina parried the attack before attempting a counterattack. Anticipating it, the female stepped back and avoided it. The other Guard was meanwhile attempting to get a lucky cheap shot on her while she attacked the female. Nalina blocked it just like the previous one, then she stepped forward and shoved him back with her shield as she hissed, "Back off!"

Before he could regain the ground that he had just lost, Nalina fired off a Web and entangled the male Guard. Shocked by the sudden attack, the male struggled frantically to escape the sticky trap. The female, on the other hand, was attempting to charge Nalina while she was distracted. What stubbornness! Hadn't she already learned from the male that they could not surprise her like that!? Nalina just as easily blocked the attack with her shield, resisting any stun or knockback due to her size, and followed it with an immediate counterattack by thrusting her blade into the female.

Nalina could see the hurt in her eyes as she jumped back again. She relished it. This was revenge. For all the pain and suffering inflicted upon her, she would make her feel agony a hundred times as worse! Nalina took a bold and offensive step forward as she slashed at the female. She could see the fear in her eyes as she narrowly avoided each strike, that fear of dying. Emotional pain was just as good as physical, and Nalina enjoyed it all the same.

She took notice of the male and how he was getting closer and closer to being released from Nalina's webs. Having moved forward in bold offense, Nalina was close enough to launch an attack on the male. Having moved backward in avoidance of the War Maiden's attacks, the female was too far away to stop it. Nalina gripped her sword tightly as she drove her sword into the Guard's chest, cutting some of the webs in the process. Had it not been for his armor, it would have been a fatal blow. It did, however, knock him off balance and cause him to tip over and fall to the ground, his legs still being too entangled to stop it.

Seeing her comrade suffer such an attack, the female charged at Nalina with renewed resolve and wrath. She let loose another stab of her spear but Nalina blocked it with her shield, yet was this time stunned slightly. She quickly recovered and gave the female a swing of her blade as she hissed, "You think you be a match for a War Maiden!?" The female was able to evade the attack, but only just barely. Nalina stepped forward and launched another attack, but she dodged it just as well, and counter attacked with another stab. Unable to block it in time, Nalina instead stepped back and reduced the blow of the attack. It struck her upper sword arm, but didn't leave too much of a mark.

The male Guard had meanwhile managed to free himself and was just returning to his feet. He charged Nalina just as the female attempted another attack. With her War Maiden instincts, Nalina quickly parried the female Guard's spear and knocked it into the direction of the charging Guard. The sharp edges of the spear struck the male Guard in the chest, leaving quite the mark behind on his armor. The two Guards were in confusion of what happened, the female looking towards the male in surprise and regret, while the male looked like he might suddenly stumble over.

Nalina took advantage of the situation by launching another attack on the female, but she had just recovered from the shock and barely managed to see the blade coming. She quickly stepped back and avoided the attack, but ended up stumbling on her feet and falling on her rear end. Through the corner of Nalina's eye, she caught the male moving! He was attempting to bring his own spear down upon her head. She was surprised he had recovered so quickly, but that didn't stop her from blocking the attack in the slightest. Nalina remained on the defensive before and after the female Guard returned to her feet and reengaged.

Suddenly Nalina heard various commands being shouted by the voices of command. The Hero leader, a Dwarf, ordered someone named Tetryos to head after one of their own, someone named Diana. Tetryos happened to be the male Guard she had been fighting. He complied and withdrew himself from the fight. Nalina was pleased. Oh how easy this fight had been made. She was going to slaughter this female so horribly that not even Tesonu would want her afterwards.

Nalina began her attack anew on the female. Now forced to fight on her own, it didn't seem like she stood that much of a chance. She was hardly able to attack as she was too busy trying to avoid the War Maiden's attacks.

    Nalina
    Health: 91% [-7% from Clarissa]
    Level: 3
Experience: 25/35 [20+ for Fierce Combat]
    Gold in Hand: 0
    Gold in Lair: 0
Equipment: Short Sword, Steel Shield, 2/2 Tomahawks, Quiver (15 Bodkin/5 Broadhead)
Location: Trap Room, Front Line Defense, East of Dreggory
    Status: Enraged, Attacking Clarissa
    Efficiency: 125%

Summary: Nalina followed Omervium into battle, ending up on the East side of Dreggory. She fought Clarissa and Tetryos while enraged by her hatred of Heroes. She blocked their attacks and webbed Tetryos, fighting Clarissa solo for a moment before she hit the still webbed Tetryos and knocked him to the ground. Clarissa managed to get a small hit on Nalina before Tetryos rejoins the battle with a charge. Nalina deflects an attack from Clarissa and it hits Tetryos, stunning both of them. Clarissa stumbled to the ground after dodging an attack from Nalina and then Nalina blocked a sudden attack from Tetryos. Nalina remained entirely defensive until Tetryos was called away, allowing her to begin getting aggressive again.
