As I said before, DK1 and FX read music from what's in the CD drive. Insert a Dungeon Keeper 1 disc in your PC's CD drive for DK1's music, or insert a music CD to play music from that instead.

    If you use a music CD, track 2 will be played on the overworld map and tracks 3-6 in game. Track 3 plays on map numbers 1, 5, 9, 13, etc., track 4 on 2, 6, 10, 14 etc., track 5 on 3, 7, 11, 15 etc. and track 6 on 4, 8, 12, 16 etc.

    PS: don't double post.

yer, that's not what i meant.
i mean it actually doesn't work.
it needs a midi driver, which i don't have

    Default Music is easy

It is very easy to get the music to work.
Just download the original music, and play it in a media player, while playing Dungeon Keeper(FX).

I myself use that trick, to listen to radio programs, while playing. But you can download the original Dungeon Keeper Music, by extracting the files from CD, or from some download that has them. I would extract one of the songs in 2009, with the help of one of the fan made software programs from France. I'll have a look on whether I can find that program...
    Just a minute...

    DKTools
    http://keeper.lubie.org/html/dk1_tools_other.php
    That download is down now.
This french pack of utilities integrates many useful files.

It contains viewer for maps, RNC decompressor with nice GUI, a tool to change all text shown by the game and to switch sounds. Additionally, there is a tool to access any level from the original DK campaign, and to adjust game settings.

    And even more!
As I said, I was able to extract one of the songs with that software, but you will have to find another place to get that package. Maybe it is uploaded some where else, or some one on this forum can create a place to download it again. There is a banner at dungeon-keeper.net to this forum, the software package might be on this forum some where. In any case, I would be interested in a normal mp3 download also. I don't find this package on my current disk, my previous computer broke down, and if you can't find the software package, I know of no place to download the original music.

Oh god... Dungeon Keeper DOESN'T NEED a Midi driver to get music as there's NO MIDI music in the game (excepted for the AWE32 SFX). The music comes from the CD-Rom of the game.

I will repeat it again, PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS :

To get music during the game, you must insert the CD-Rom of the game into your FIRST CD-Rom drive (starting with drive D:\), then launch KeeperFX. If you can't (for example, you wanna use the E:\ drive), you'll have to either disable one of your CD-Rom drives through the Material control panel or change the letters of your drives through Computer Management panel. You can also use Daemon Tools if you have a CD Image instead. If the CD is inserted into the first drive and you still don't get music, check that it is turned on in your Sound Control panel and check the volume. Normally, you should get music during the game. A quick way to know if the music is working, go in the Options screen from the main menu, you should hear music there.

As for DKTools, it doesn't extract the music.

Actually, I'm pretty sure there are music files on there, they're just stuck inside larger data files or something. If you've done all of DragonsLover's steps, the music should play. Otherwise, try inserting any music CD and see if that works.

    Wink Playing now

Well, I'm playing the music now, while browsing around this forum.
    Thanks again Dragonslover!
I would also like to now, whether you know another place, where DKTools is found, because the link at keeper.lubie is down.

    For unpacking rar, here is some freeware you can use to unpack the files;
    7-Zip
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/
    or
    http://www.freebielist.com/ziputilities.htm

    unzipthemall..its free and works

These are probably French versions, though. Use a dictionary if necessary.

What's the point of this, besides this being plain advertising?

The reason why there's no music files is because they're CD Audio Tracks (try inserting the CD into a normal CD player and start playing track 2 (the first track is reserved for data)). If you want to extract them, use a software that burns CD and look for .CDA files. Extract them to .WAV or .MP3 if you want. But normally, if you have these .CDA files, you don't have to extract them. Just follow my instructions in my previous post and you will get music.

If your CD really doesn't have CD Audio Tracks, then you can do the exact same thing I did myself:
    - Download all the .MP3s from the site I indicated in my previous post.
    - Create a blank sound file. You can do this easily by clicking record in a sound recorder software while there's no microphone in so that the sound will be silent.
    - By using a CD burner sofware, ask to create an audio CD image file, place the blank sound file as first track and add the .MP3 files afterwards in the correct order (very important).
    - Create the image CD file.
    - Use Daemon Tools Lite to mount the CD Image and ensure that the emulated CD drive is the FIRST one (has the letter D:\). You can temporarily disable the other CD drives if you wish.
    - Run KeeperFX and presto : you have music during the game!

For DKTools, it is HERE. But it won't help in any ways for the music.
