Default [0.38c] Savegames make game unstable?

I haven't really got proof of this, but I think save games make the game unstable.

I can play for hours without a problem, but when I start saving (cause I have to quit, or just in case etc.) the game tends to hang without reason. Just instant freeze without a warning or messages in the logs.

The funny problem is I can't get the game to crash when running the debug version. It runs terribly slow, but even saving ten times in fifteen minutes doesn't make it hang.

I have a save game added from Sleepiburgh which I want to use, cause I took a creature from the previous map, but after five to ten minutes of play it hangs. Not at a specific moment as far as I know. The log file says nothing after the crash.

The game doesn't crash back to the desktop it just freezes. I have to use the taskmanager to kill it.

The save game is not from an older version btw.

Are you sure it's not related to this bug instead, considering the fact that there's A LOT of gold being dug on Sleepiburgh by computer players?

It might. But it also happens at maps which haven't got computer players or massive amounts of gold. One of the custom campaigns has a map where you have one big hero castle in the middle which is a huge maze and you have to build your dungeon around it. There is not much gold and no AI player and it still freezes so now and then.

I just played the map (Sleepiburgh) without the creature (so just did resume game, instead of load game) and it hang after a few minutes. Then I tried the debug version on the save game and that froze too (finally!) So here is the log file.

If it's related to the known bug than I have said nothing.

    It seems it froze to:
    Code:
Sync: process_computer_player2: Starting for player 2
which was supposed to be right after:
    Code:
    Sync: task_dig_to_gold: Starting
If the said custom level you mention is really a huge maze, then it may be because of a too big pathfinding for a creature. I remember doing such a level and playing it under NORMAL Dungeon Keeper. Once I discovered a neutral creature, the game freezes completely since I suppose the path was too much complicated for that new creature.

So it is the golddig bug?

And the pathfinding, that's engine limited or also a bug?

I can't say perfectly what's the cause. Mefisto has a better knowledge about that than me. I only know that, if the game freezes, it's generally because of the "computer dig to gold" bug, and if the pathfinding is too much complicated for a creature (which may creates a loop), the game may also hang or crash.
