    Default Dungeon Keeper Editor Help

I been messing with this fo a while trying to get the new versions of the maps to work. I went through the README and did not find any kind of troubleshooting or better explanations do certain things. So I am resorting to creating tis thread and asking this:

How the hell do I lock the damn doors I place on the map? The README says hold "ctrl" key while the door is selected and place it down on the map. Well I tried that and it does not work, it keeps placing the doors down unlocked.

Hold ctrl and click on an already placed door, that should work.

I tried everything and it's not working, it refuses to lock the doors.

You must press CTRL key on the right of the keyboard, not the one on the left.

I figured it out, it was some wierd glitch that happens when you edit the orginal levels. In my case, the certain doors i tried adding and locking kept deleting themselves when I clicked on them. In order to bypass that I had to change the terrain and turn it back and THEN place the door to lock it. There is alot of wierd stuff that goes on in those original levels. Mirthshire (the level with the two lvl 10 Samurai and lvl 10 Knight that patrols the outside walls of your dungeon) had some something go on where, if you tried replacing the tile in the middle fort and put a door on it. it would warp back to being unclaimed tile with a door. I had to keep changing it back untill it finnaly gave in. How annoying... lol

Did you remove the "read only" tag from the levels folder?

Ummm no? If that was required for better performance then it should be on the README, I have gone through that multiple times and have not seen anything on that.

I find Adikted to be an overall very good Map Editor You might want to give it a whirl.
It may be distorted depending on the Font Sizing, so you may wish to change the window options, after that is pretty much awesome.

Adikted runs very strange on my PC, plus it was kind of a nightmare to work with 1 square placing at a time. X.x

Oh yes, you may want to keep the Adikted manual open the first few times you run through. You pretty much have to use the Slab Function - Ctrl-Space - to add large rooms and also to select whole areas as belonging to the Player, then save so that excess colors (over dirt, lava etc non-aligned squares) will disappear. It takes some getting used to, but its good, especially with the Insert / Remove Dungeon Specials.

For me the biggest irritation was setting the Windows Display Font so that each square looks like a square, instead of a rectangle.

Watch out for Doors, they don't change color with the base tile. So if you change a tile from Hero to Neutral, and the door was previously Hero, it will still remain Hero. You have to go into Thing mode to change the owner.

Though personally I like Neutral walls (that no one can tear down) with Hero Doors (that the trapped Heroes won't tear down).
