    Smile Campaign Discussion Thread

Heyo, I've been lurking for a bit, and I noticed that a lot of the discussion here is about getting things to work, or using the editor, so I decided to make a thread that's about any and all discussion of the campaign.

I hadn't actually played Dungeon Keeper 2 for years. I was 11 when the game came out, and I never managed to finish it back then, so I'm really going through the campaign for mostly the first time. I remember that when I was a kid, I always got stuck at Emberglow because I could never figure out how to beat the first few giants. I finally got past that level yesterday (yay moment for me) and I also beat Snapdragon in the first attempt (it was extremely easy).

Then I promptly got stuck on Silverstream, the one where you have to Ambush the Lord of the Land who gets people at the guard rooms. I'm a slow, stay in your base and build up type strategy gamer, so levels that require a lot of speed throw me a little (it's one of the reasons I'll never be good at StarCraft, Zerg rushes kill me), and I just couldn't get the guard rooms destroyed on time.

Well, I figured out how to beat that level with my style of play. I just built up and trained my creatures, and I didn't even touch the guard rooms. I just built a bridge all the way to where the Lord of the Land emerges from the Hero Gates. Then I Thunderbolted him to stun him, and again when he got up, and again. The rest of his posse just kept walking to the guard room, leaving him behind alone and defenseless. So I just dumped my trained up Bile Demons and Mistresses on him, and he didn't stand a chance against them on his own, especially with me still thunderbolting him.

That level will never give me trouble again.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the campaign?

I can recognize, know and understand your feelings about it very much. It is not that much different when I was younger and started playing DK2, that was a long time ago.

The DK2 campaign is actually pretty good and diverse, and often go beyond the basics of building up your dungeon and defeating enemies. I still remember fondly that the level that drove me batty was level ''SMASH'' - Woodsong back then because I didn't understand what I was supposed to do, in fact I really thought Asmodeus was an ally I was supposed to protect! That was pretty annoying because the real fun of the campaign began past that level, in my opinion.

Subsequent levels were also good and original and really needed some good, careful strategem sometimes.

    Ahh... good old times.

I spent several hours too long on the last map, sending several waves of minions against the Stone Knights because I didn't realise I had to summon Horny. This was when I was playing through with a mind to finally finish the campaign years back.

My favorite levels were always Stonekeep (Secret Doors in Massive Fort), Emberglow (Aforesaid) and Cherish (Vampires).

I god damn hate Asmodeus. Every person I've ever introduced DK2 to always gave up at that level. I like the mission where you have to stop the LotL from running away down the river

I always skipped past that mission where you were supposed to ambush that LotL in that tunnel with all the water. For whatever reason, the moment that guy catches sight of any of my creatures, he would sprint so fast past everything I have all, the way to the exit and I cannot stop him. >.<

He's been scripted to do that once he's taken a significant amount of damage. Some barricades usually is enough to stop him, could even cast Lightning on him to stun him.

Yeah, lightning is the easy way to stop that guy. I said this in my first post, but here's the hilariously stupid and easy way to exploit the retarded A.I. and defeat him without breaking a sweat:

    - Ignore the guard posts.
    - Build up your dungeon and train your creatures.
    - Build a bridge up to his spawn point.
    - When he spawns and steps unto it, use lightning to stun him. Do it again when he gets back up.
    - At this point, his escort will win the prize of WORST ESCORT EVER by leaving him behind as he's stunned.
    - Drop your trained creatures on him.
    - Watch his painful, bloody and lonely death.

So, next map I'm up for is Woodsong. Never gotten this far before, any advice? Judging by a couple of posts I came across here, it's extremely hard.

Err, well, I completed Woodsong and the next one (whose name escapes me right now), but then I got sidetracked by real world concerns. Damn you, real world! I don't know when I'll have time to get any further.
