It's been, I don't know how many times I've beaten the campaign. Surely over 20 times, and I'm still playing it. And not only that, I've made some of the levels to be harder than normally, especially for Pladitz and Svatona which both have a design flaw that makes them too easy to beat.

The real challenge remains Ancient Keeper and Post-AK campaigns I think.

Huh? People actually considered Dungeon Keeper 1 hard? (Official campaigns + Deeper of'course) I mean, sure, now-a-days you/I know every map by heart, but still. Even as a kid it wasn't that hard. Always thought of the game as a casual game.

Some of them are tricky when you don't know how to deal with them. The levels newbies are generally stuck on in the official campaign is in the middle of the game with "Nevergrim" and "Hearth". In Deeper Dungeons, "Batezek" can be a real pain in the ass if you don't know how to handle your dungeon with care. Others than that, the levels are generally okay.

Whenever someone says Deeper Dungeons or something is easy, I really have to wonder if they're playing "legitimately" or if they're abusing exploits/overpowered things like Horned Reapers, Dark Mistresses, Lightning spam, etc. I've gotten through the Deeper Dungeons levels when I was younger no problem while using these tactics, but since I've decided not to abuse such things (and since I have my balanced patch), I've found things to be significantly trickier.

Though some DD levels I tend to stay away from due to them having bad level design.

I wouldn't say absolutely so, it mostly has fallen on your judgement and yours alone. There's multiple ways to interpret what the intended level design was.

I still have the retail package from when I bought it, incl original cd
cant remember how old I was, but It was one of the first games I bought (wasnt even discounted yet).

Still play from time to time.

I know it was a bit hard for me to finish the original campaign in one go, bit of trial and error and load some savegames (there are some levels where you can dig a tile too far and end up herospammed :P ), because i never wanted to have creatures die on me. (Why the hell did I get so atttached to them :P ). So I always tried to go with as little loss of lives as possible.

Anyway, after lvl 20 I was like: is this it?

/me dreams again of all those hours of playtime back when he was a kid and had no responsibilities like mortgages, jobs etc

what was this discussion about again?

Deeper Dungeons definantely wasn't easy, but it wasn't WTFBBQ hard. I beat it in 2 day on my first run through.

I know. I have no idea what was the real intention of Bullfrog's level designers. I can just guess and adapt the changes the best I can. And like I said, and repeated, you're not forced to play my version of levels. Feel free to play the original bugged and scrapped levels. Otherwise, why don't you share to me what's your vision of things then?
