    Exclamation Jittery mouse cursor.

    Hello everyone.

I've just reinstalled Dungeon Keeper FX and at the menu and in-game the mouse cursor jitters with a little lag and moves by itself, for example I'd move the mouse to the left and it would jitter and bounce around.

Is there a fix for this at all, it never did this when I had FX installed previously. It does the same thing whether I use a wireless mouse or the trackpad on my laptop.

I've entered -altinput into the black box on the launcher and pressed enter then clicked start game but it doesn't seem to solve the issue.

    Thanks in advance!

Are you sure you're not having the general issue with win8.1?

Excellent thank you, I'll try and follow the resolution presented there. It never crossed my mind that it could be Windows. Thanks a lot!

    Hi again.

What a nightmare, I go to install the update and the Windows Update Standalone Installer says 'The update is not applicable to your computer' - Speak with MS support, absolutely useless, they're blaming my laptop mousepad and two different brands of mice I use. Do you have any ideas on how to resolve it? I'm guessing you're knowledgeable of the issue considering you selected that straight away. Thanks for your help buddy.

EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out, didn't install the update, but followed the registry resolution. Thanks once again!

    Hi,

I have the same trouble with my mouse. And the only thing i found with Google was the -altinput but that did not help at all.
I am also using win 8.1 and i was also not able to install the update: Now i am wondering how you solved the problem. I do
not really understand what you did with "followed the registry resolution".

    Thanks for helping!

EDIT: Problem solved. The Windows page had a mistake in the german version...

This could be a problem with windows 8.1 since I have the same problem but I can play regular dungeon keeper and dungeon keeper 2 without mouse problems. But when I play it with keeperFX my mouse gets jittery and it is just unplayable.

According to this Microsoft messed up with mouse acceleration, like they did years before with EAX support.

Maybe mefisto could write something in the mouse input code for users who are using 8 or 8.1

    http://donewmouseaccel.blogspot.fr/2...ation-fix.html

If you don't know you need it, then you don't need it!

Some older games, such as Half-Life 1, Counter-Strike 1.x, Quake, Quake 2, Unreal and others, while they are active and running, call a Windows function intending to disable variable mouse acceleration by forcing ALL movement to be accelerated by the same amount (doubled).
On Windows 2000 and earlier, that removed all variable acceleration.
Pointing and aiming in those games was OK, because the mouse response was then linear (all movement was accelerated by the same amount; it was doubled).

In XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.x, Microsoft changed how mouse pointer acceleration worked.
Now when those games call the function (asking that all movement be accelerated), Windows enables the mouse 'Enhance pointer precision' feature, which adds mouse acceleration using a varying curve to control the mouse response. (It enables it even if you have it turned off in the Control Panel Mouse settings.)

With 'Enhance pointer precision' enabled, slower mouse movements make the pointer go extra slow and faster mouse movements make the pointer go extra fast. It is not linear and not straightline.

This is annoying, because where you are aiming at depends on how far you move your mouse, and also on how fast you moved the mouse to aim.

So I tried some of these that you linked and they didn't work for me. I really wish I could trade windows 8.1 for either xp or vista because this is lame.

Oh god, so that's maybe the reason why my mouse felt like a dead weight in KeeperFX. I tried with this option disabled and indeed, it's far more better that way. Many thanks to you, Stanislas Dolcini!
