Thread: Music

    Default Music

Now I lost my Deeper Dungeons disc many years ago, but not my standard Dungeon Keeper, which works fine.

Recently I acquired a copy of Gold off a friend, which I have discovered, is one of the versions which lacks the music for the game, so my question is, how do I implement the sound into this copy of Dungeon Keeper?
I can get the music off my normal DK disc, but is there a way to integrate it into DKG so it works as part of it, or do I just have to play it in winamp in the background.

On a related note, does anyone know anything about an old "goodies" disc for Dungeon Keeper, it contained files of the stranger quotes "my god it's full of pies" (I think, also it had some strange soundfile stuff about being invaded by possibly ?aliens? so may not have been just for dungeon keeper) and the DK theme for windows 95 among other things. Had a troll(s) and bile demon(s) on the front.

    Thanks!

If you do the same things you do when you make the game run without CD, but also copy the 'sound' directory from your original Dungeon Keeper, you'll get the music to play.

The music is absolutely not stored into the Sound folder. Only the sound effects are.

It's a good thing that you kept your original DK CD as you can use it to get music in-game. You don't need to use Winamp or any media players.

To do so, you must perform the "no-cd" thing, like if you would install the level editor. Just read the editor's manual or look over here to know what to do (Step 2.0).

Once it's done, remove your DKGold CD from your drive and place your original DK CD instead. When you'll launch your game again, you should get music in the game from the CD. If not, be sure that the CD is inserted into your FIRST CD-ROM drive (D:\ or E:\).

With Deeper Dungeons, you may encounter the "Insert CD" message. Just use that crack to get rid of it.

As for the "Goodies" CD, that's something interesting that I didn't know. By performing a search over Google, there's indeed a Goodies CD included in "Dungeon Keeper Collector's Edition" (more infos and torrent here, but in russian and you must register, or some are available on eBay). I'd be very interested to get a copy of it.

    As Dragonslover said.
Make a Hard-disk installation, and play Dungeon Keeper from there, with the Dungeon Keeper CD in the CD-rom player.

The Deeper Dungeons levels are protected though. I don't know how. If you load them in the DK editor, in order to play them from a Hard-disk installation, the levels don't work. I think you can destroy this protection, by loading and saving them in Adikted, but I'm not sure, haven't tried that. The music is also protected, but this protection is easy to bypass. I remember having the songs grabbed on my previous computer, but I have no backup. If you grab them from the CD, you can play them in an MP3 player, media player, Winamp whatever, when you play the game.

The Deeper Dungeons levels aren't protected. Only the game is. When Deeper Dungeon runs, it checks for the label of the CD to be sure that it's really the Deeper Dungeons disc that is inserted. The label must be KDDISK1. If it's not, then the message "Please insert the Deeper Dungeons CD" is shown. Hopefully, the crack I specified above remove that check.
