    First of all, don't worry, I'm not changing this,....

    but in general, yeah, it IS possible for mechanics to be there that take the fun out of games for just being there. Because players do want to play optimally,... another example would be how bile demons and dragons being so easy to get as your first units on most standard maps make your army less interesting. You could say 'just throw them away if you do not want them', but the problem is you DO want them, but they are so easy to get and so good that most other units become pointless and you end up with the same army all the time.

    maybe if beetles didn't suck so much bile demon ass then i'd include them
