    Default Confirmed Stuff?

This is a question, and I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but...

Any creatures, rooms, spels, heroes, and the like confirmed? Would be nice to have a list of confirmed, good ideas (things that might make it), or things that will not be used.

    Thanks in advance.

I'll have to agree here, just having a idea of what is good or something will help in either improving the said Suggestion, or a better suggestion can be made from it.

In fact, I already admitted that the Rat is one of my worst suggestions ever.

The problem I can see is that there is nothing to put the suggestions in. Nothing to test them in so to speak.

Without the ability to playtest suggestions and tweak them we cannot confirm or dismiss anything at this point really.

Well maybe Treasury, Hatchery, Lair, Training Room and the Library are pretty much confirmed but other than that nothing.

    Hello everyone.
Please let me clarify the situation.
I have been working on the Dungeon Keeper engine for almost a month in November. What I currently have, is a basic visualisation system, simple funtionality for particle effects, sound, physics, skeletal animation.
The way I've done dungeon lighting (torches and others) is pretty much like DK-1. But I've recently came along with another way (which is much more advanced) - so visualisation system should be probably partially rewritten.
There is currently no AI, neither scripting fuctionality where you can test your ideas (suggestions). Implementing this is a very challenging task, which cannot be done by single programmers, even by small group of programmers. To create tools, where artists (and persons, inexperienced in programming) would feel comfortable in, you need a team like Epic or Blizzard have.
Anyway, I dont have time for WFTO now (I hope to get to it in January), but when I will be working with it, I will only implement the very minimum a gamer need to enjoy the game. So a huge variaty of creatures / rooms / environments would probably be left behind.

    Thanks,
    Pavel.

he is working on it alone. no backup. no support.

I cant find anyone who would be interested. The biggest problem is: we are making a game anew. People get scared when they hear that. If we were making some kind of mod for DK1/2 it would be much easier to get people, because it would be much more realistic.

My opinion: instead of creating new ideas that will never be implemented anyway, try to find people who would have descent knowledge in art/programming.

Drag your friends programmers in, find people on specific forums, search search search. I Have two possible candidates in mind, the problem is again, they do not want to join for an ambiguous project that will consume all of their time, without any deadlines or opportunities.

We have project leaders. What do they do? We had to have regular progress meetings. No meetings. I argued with dotted about it some time ago. I think that without minimum organizational structure we will never make it.

You know how it works in business? People set GOALS. When goals are set, people create PLANS, on goal implementation. When plans are set, people gather resources and start working. We have a goal: to make a great DK game that would be fun, quite modern and flexible. Do we have Plans on how to make it? No.

Ok, enough lecturing, but as said above, this is going nowhere untill everyone contributes to the project. And by contribution I mean the actual help, not "here is my creature/spell/effect, it is super awesome, lets have it"

I would love to give a hand with this project. I have an extensive background in managing in both open source projects and closed source projects where I work. I'm a novice C++ programmer, do graphics, UI design, and dabble in most programming languages.

Having looked at the existing code, I am confident we can get a mostly broken beta out in 3-4 months that has enough infrastructure for all of the talented artists to fill the game with sound, models, art, etc. Meanwhile, we finish a beta and get testing! I think for a first version we should definitely try and mimic the much simpler DK1, so that we can run unit tests and see what parts of the code need optimizing when we want to add fancy new shaders and the ability for completely user customizable map sizes and creatures

Creating a simpler DK clone would allow us to target a mobile platform off the bat too. Phones since 2007 have been shipping with VGA screens and >400mhz processors. Who wouldn't love a portable DK

    How can I get involved?

    Hello drkow, and welcome.

Ask kopavel for permission to use the engine. If he agrees, you are free to contribute. Your help is much needed, we are lacking skilled programmers atm. Also, get a google acc here and ask our moderators for changing your status to a dev.

I am currently installing visual studio 8, will look at the code today.
