    Default No sound

    Hi

I've been using KeeperFX to play DK1 for about 3 months now and it's been fine but for the past few days the sound has disappeared - the game plays okay and sound works as normal on everything else on my PC, but not this game now. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but the problem started just after I took the wires out of the back of my PC to clean it. When I plugged everything back in, all is okay but no sound in Dungeon Keeper. Probably just a coincidence though. My PC is a desktop, Windows 10 64 bit. I've searched the forums and saw someone else had a sound problem but was using some surround sound set up - mine is just two little desk speakers, nothing fancy and as I say the game was fine until a few days ago. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Make sure the game's volume is turned up, both in the game and on Windows's volume mixer.

Have you been playing with the launcher and have you enabled 'nosound' as an option there? What does your log file say?

Yes volume turned up everywhere, in game and on PC, speakers all working fine. Yes playing with the launcher and I've not turned off the sound in the options but just checked in case it was accidentally turned off but the box is unchecked. The log is below, I'm certainly no PC whizz so don't understand much of it but even I can see it says Can't start playing sample so something somewhere has gone wrong!

I did try downloading one of the nightly builds and pasting in the files from that, it overwrote some files but all that has done is I can't load old saves, otherwise works fine but still no sound. If you can see anything from the below log I could try to fix that would be great.

    Thanks for trying help.

No, that's actually just fine. The game simply shipped with lots of sounds missing. Sound 172 is supposed to be the sound imps make when they reinforce walls, but it was never included in the game. This one just happens to be added here, in an alpha from the unofficial release.

That doesn't help you though, but is it particularly strange that it happened recently. You could check the sound settings of your pc, if you did enable surround sound - even with just the two speakers - that is enough to cause KeeperFX bugging out.

Beyond that, I've got no idea what caused it to stop working, is there anything you did between it working and it not working?

I've gone through all the sound settings I could find and came across the box for surround sound and that is definitely not enabled so not that I'm afraid. The only thing I did between having sound and no sound in DK is taking the wires out the back so I could clean inside the PC. But all wires are definitely back in their proper sockets and as I say the sound is fine in everything else so I don't think it is because of that. The only other thing I would say though is that the volume of the sound in DK was never great and I did have to turn the volume up a bit to hear it (but at least there was some sound there). And the game has frozen, only a few times but each time it did that the sound seemed a little more muffled afterwards. It also froze just after I did the clean and that is when the sound went off altogether - but that does seem a bit too weird, the game freezes and each time the sound gets worse until it disappears altogether - does that make any sense?

Just to be sure, you do know there's an ingame sound/volume menu as well right?

But no, does not make much sense to me, a crash should have no effect on the next session. But you could try a fresh install for the heck of it.

Re the ingame sound, yes I know there is one option in the main menu and also ingame in the same window as the save/load etc - I have checked both several times and they are on full. So yes a reinstall does seem the only thing left to try now.

    Thanks again for helping!
