Is there an easy way to know what the x.y co-ordinates are for a slab?
is (1,1) bottom left corner?
thanks

No, 1,1 is the top-left corner. And yes, the very easy way is to open adikted and hold your cursor over the slab you want to know the location of. It tells you the coordinates on the right side. If you want to know subtiles, place a thing and hold a cursor over it in thing mode, it will tell you the subtile coordinates too. (Some commands take subtiles).
Aah top left - that explains my repeated failures!
Got it to work now, thanks.
Strange thing though - it seems both computer players here immediately build colossal lairs? It's happened each time.
Player3 has no heart strangely according to the log, but i can fix that later. Just thought the monster-lairs is a bit strange?

A Computer Player will try to scale the Lair size according to to the maximum amount of Creatures defined by MAX_CREATURES(PLAYER#,VALUE). Since this is not defined for the Computer Players they think this value is infinite and thus build a colossal Lair.
Setting a value of 15 to 30 Creatures should normally be ok. Not to worry: The Computer will build additional Lairs if this is not enough.
Also: To me PLAYER3 (Yellow) has a heart. Do you perhaps mean PLAYER2 (Green)? He has an Entrance instead of a dungeon heart in his starting location.
OK, thanks for the explanation. And yes, player2 has no heart - my incompetence!
