Thread: Was there a discussion of Hi-Res sprites by neuro net?

    Default Was there a discussion of Hi-Res sprites by neuro net?

    Searched forum but didn`t find anything related since 2009.
    Is there a way to replace sprites by HD ones, HD upscaling now can be easilly done using neural nets.
    If it can be implemented on current engine - why not do it? I can donate for this work to be done by someone skilled.
    Any ideas?

    There's already some upscaled sprites in the FXGraphics repository: https://github.com/dkfans/FXGraphics
    But nobody worked on getting them into the game yet.

    Also, so far, upscaling of 2d sprites cannot be done with AI yet.

    Those are not the sprites. The sprites are a series of moving, matching images that are linked into an animation. It needs to be consistent.

    Sprites are just 2D images. They can be non animated as well. You are right about upscaling animations though. That might look very weird.

    Those look pretty good. You first made them into a gif to upscale them, or what did you do?

    But currently in the GFX sources there is upscaled sprites already, done a couple of years ago. If you want to provide a higher quality set you'd be more than welcome.

    No, I`ve upscaled them first and then assemble into gif.

    I think we should upscale sprites that are from dungeon textures, since there are no animation and amount of work lesser, so it can be done relatively easy - like wall textures, floor textures, statues and lamp textures and so on.
    After that we can upscale animation sprites, since there are much more of them. Upscale process is quite fast and easy, especially if someone can write a API script to load png on server and download rescaled one.

    Since upscale service is not free and there are some price to remove watermark from upscaled pics - we can use something like 70$ for 10 000 sprites. Home many sprites total in DK?

    So, i suggest:
    1. Rescale magic and effect sprites
    2. Rescale map textures and map-related sprites like water and flame and so on
    3. Rescale units sprites

    I can pay for subscription, but i don`t know how to write API script, so if anyone can help - all this work with rescaling can be done in a couple of hours.

    How all this textures can be import in game?
