Default Workshop - Manufacturing Style Poll

    Dungeon Keeper 1

    Ingame-
Simply your manufacturers go to the Workshop and build until it is full. This is an automatic style of building. All you have to do is go to the Workshop panel and place down Traps or Doors that are already built. Then your Imps obtain the Trap/Door box and then bring it to its desired location.

    Pros-
Never Have to Worry About Workshop Orders
Faster Trap/Door Planting As Trap/Door Premade

    Cons-
No Control on the Order, Built by High Demand
    Crouded Workshop
Glitchy with AI and Many "Things" (Fixable)

    Dungeon Keeper 2

    Ingame-
You go to the Workshop Panel and then place Traps or Doors. They appear as blueprints and then your manufacturers head to the Workshop and build. This requires a more manuel type of work. After your Manufacturers are done, your Imps eventually drag the box to the location.

    Pros-
    Complete Control Over What's Built
    Non-Crouded

    Cons-
    Slower Placement
Must Worry About Getting Manufacturers into the Workshop to Build

    Switchable

    Ingame-
There would be a Default Game Setting on which DK1 or DK2 style it uses. There should be a switch in the Workshop Panel between manuel and automatic. Then depending on the setting, it will move about as either DK1 (Automatic) or DK2 (Manuel) Workshop Progress.

    Pros-
Allows Building upon the Varifying Player's Preference

    Cons-
    AI Trouble (Fixable)
Constant Need to Reset Value (Fixable)

    Custom Switchable

    Ingame-
Simply it is the same style as the Switchable, except there is a new option near the Switch of Automatic and Manuel. Clicking this brings up a menu of the Automatic order. From here you can switch which Traps or Doors are built in what order. So basically Custom Switchable is the same as Switchable but you can change the automatic order.

    Pros-
Allows Total Custom Gameplay to How the Player Likes

    Cons-
May become Too Powerful in Getting Powerful Traps Early (Highly Unlikely)
Dungeon Keeper 2 Patch: With More Balance and Pie [Hiatus]
Forever Hiatus. Probably. Latest Version: 3.5 w/Levels 1-11 Revised.

i like the DK1 style because you dont have to worry about whats going on and just leave them too it. then come back after a few minutes to discover a trove of traps to place.

how ever on re-reading your post, how about a 'forceable' (but a better name ofcoruse) kind of option

its a bit like switchable, but instead of being one OR the other, its both

the workshop goes about manufacturing all the items in sequence, filling in gaps where needed and stockpiling liek in DK1

but if you choose something which has 'no stock', it forces the creatures to make that one next - then goes back to its predefined construction order

I like switchable because- you get to stock ur stuff (just in case) but you get to choose what you really need

So explain this new one more?

I myself prefer the custom switchable because of the power it gives to the player. The dangers I don't see as that bad, and it can please all types of players.

Also if you get bored or tired of one way, you can use another or if you need specific trap and whatnot.

I like custom switchable, there could even be something part of the room similar to DKII's casino where you can choose to have it as happy or take their money whilst playing.

One way gives you less control of what's being made for the price of nothing, then the other can be you choose what to place and then it will be made and there would be a price.

Basically its switchable but without a switch....

lets say you leave your creatures in the work shop, they beign manufacturing
after a few minutes they have made a gas trap and a lightening trap - and have begun work on a wooden door (i cant remember the order, so im making my own one up)
But you desperately need a magic door and have none 'in stock'

instead of then switching it to manual, chosing the magic door, placing it down and having the creatures make that
THEN having to switch back to automatic if you've got no more orders for them

you simply just click the magic door (of which you have 0), it places the blue prints and your creatures drop their work on the wooden door and obey the orders to make the magic door. once thats done they get back to their standard rotation and continue their progress on the previous one, and then go on to make the braced door

Let's use Sentry Trap as an example.

That means if you want to place down five Sentry Traps, you do so. The game then checks to see if the number of Sentry Trap Boxes is greater than or equal to the number of blue prints. If it is not, then your manufacturers get to work.

    Is that what you mean?

It still sounds more DK1ish, and I'm not sure if I want it simply due to some of the bugs DK1's system had with the huge amount of workshop boxes plus the AI building large Workshops.

Then there's that one when say you have 2 Poison Gas Traps. You place one down, and now the menu says you have 1 Poison Gas Trap. After the Imp takes it from the Workshop, it takes another Poison Gas Trap from the menu and now you have 0 to build, even though there's an extra one in the Workshop.

Also I don't want the manufacturers to constantly be busy with the Workshop, we need them to be working on other stuff too. The switchable enables that possiblity, without you needing to order them to do other things.

Sounds good. That switch should be there, and there should be something beside it that has the menu for the automatic order.

i think you actually answered this part your self hehe

Fair enough. personnally i like being able to leave my creatures to work away. then should you get into a bit of trouble and the enemy makes a breach, youve got a stock pile of doors/traps to slap down quickly without having to drag your fighting troops into the workshop hehe

Also to mention the "Fixable" is to mean it can be fixed, but it may not be fixed if no safe solution is found.

well it was only an idea - just thought id put it forwards as extension of your idea. combining them into one and the same, rather than as a manual switch
