    Post Map making.

was wondering how map making in dungeon keeper takes place :>
is it a program like the map editors for the warcraft series, or is it a pure coding matter? =?
was wondering 'cause I'd like to try making maps (never do that in other games though xD, but Dungeon Keeper is my absolute favorite game ever ^.^) however if it is a coding matter i might have to STUDY with it, or simply have to give it up (don't want to give it up if i can avoid it xD)
hope you'll give me a usefull reply (:

For KeeperFX, you need to use the map editor 'Adikted', which is text-based. (IIRC, the official editor doesn't work with FX). Otherwise, you may want to use the official editor to build maps on the original DK, then move them over to FX.

You can download these map editors here.

Move to the original DK directory to it's ''level folder'' then copy over ALL (actually some files may not be needed, like those created in Adikted) the files of the map you want and paste it in the FX' one.

The only part that may be confusing is that DK uses numbers eg MAP00020 (Skybird Trill) instead of normal mapnames, giving names is still possible though but it's only visible when moving to the map overview when playing the level.

I've run into a problem that when I try to install the original map maker, it demands that I install the original Dungeon Keeper before I'll be able to install it, since I do have keeperFX, I was wondering if there is some way to get around this matter?

    Talking Re: Map making.

    What I do is...
1: Install DK1 & the Map Editor like normal into say c:\app\game\bullfrog\dk1
    2: Install KeeperFX to c:\app\game\bullfrog\dkfx
3: Copy the levels & co folders and remove the read only stat
4: Edit the keeper.cfg from dk1 to point to dkfx instead and it works just fine
Unfortunatly I've yet to find a free software or patch that can slow down the program on my super fast system
